The Datsun 1200s were all at sea
The road test, in July issue, records; they all returned approx. 28 m.p.g. The Austin 1300 proved fastest at 88 mph and the Avenger at 0-50 in 11 sec. The Ford was preferred as it had "a general feeling of precision and agility."
July 23 issue of Autocar features the Datsun 1200's first road test in England. It proved faster in acceleration and top speed. Uses less fuel, and has a smaller turning circle than any of them. It was said to have "a structural and mechanical efficiency of a high order."
What of the price? The Austin 1300 and Avenger Super are the cheapest at £851. The Datsun costs only £14 more, but we also give you: reclining front seats, thru-flow ventilation, heater, demister, two speed wipers, electric windscreen washers, alternator, and a locking petrol cap.
