Original specification: Hanshin H5-15-2 or Hitachi C6R-601
Ballast Resistor: Hanshin RC-15 or Hitachi 5560R-1510
1: Coil Ballast Resistor
2: Ignition Coil
3: Horn Relay
The location is the same for RHD and LHD 1200s.
Specification
- Primary (12V) Resistance @ 20C/68F temperature: 1.17 to 1.43 ohms
Secondary (high voltage) Resistance @ 20C/68F temperature: 11,200 to 16,800 ohms
External Resistor (Ballast Resistor) @ 20C/68F temperature: 1.3 to 1.7 ohms
- beck-arnley part number 178-8000
Aftermarket
There are several common coils in the Australian Bosch GT coil range.
- GT40: an oil filled conventional type coil, 3 ohm
- GT40R: same as GT40, but 1.5 ohm for use with a ballast resistor
- GT40T: a 'transformer' style coil potted in epoxy, 3 ohm
- GT40RT: same style as GT40T, but 1.5 ohm
GT40R or GT40RT can be used as a direct replacement for the stock 1200 coil, but is less powerful than the stocker 1.3 ohm coil.
Bosch Blue
The Bosch black coil uses varnish & tar in its construction, the blue coil uses Formavar (a high temp varnish) and polypropylene. In theory, the blue coil should hold up better at higher temperatures but in fact both coils do about the same.
GT40R
Primary Resistance: 1.2 ohms Secondary Resistance: 8-10 Kohms
GT40RT
Primary Resistance: 1.5 ohms Secondary Resistance: 8.6 Kohms
Bosch EI
Bosch HEC715 is used with electronic ignition.
Primary Resistance: 0.41 ohms Secondary Resistance: 7.8 Kohms
