| + | <div style="width:400px;"> | ||
| + | We've always taken the view that what's right for our cars is not | ||
| + | necessarily right for our bakkies. Which is why you find us building | ||
| + | front-wheel drive cars. But ''not'' front-wheel drive bakkies. {{web|web.archive.org/web/20160816133630/https://www.nissan.co.za/vehicles/new/np200.html|Never}}. | ||
| + | |||
| + | The reason being that — despite the trendy fashion towards 'bakkies' | ||
| + | that are really cut-off passenger cars with a load box tacked on the back — | ||
| + | ''our'' bakkie has always had rear-wheel drive. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Why? Simple. The back is where you carry the load. | ||
| + | |||
| + | To operate effectively and successfully with a load, there's only one | ||
| + | right place for that to be. Over the traction wheels. | ||
| + | |||
| + | So you'll never see our 1400 bakkie with anything but rear-wheel | ||
| + | drive. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Meaning the heavier you load it, the harder it will work for you. | ||
| + | No matter what the others do. Because we're building bakkies to | ||
| + | match our indestructible engines. | ||

| + | '''Making engines like ours can be a very hard act to follow.''' | ||
| + | <br>{{Album|31323}} | ||
| + | |||
| + | [image: engine with orange air cleaner and [[Lucas_alternator#Lucas_AS123|Lucas AS123]] alternator] | ||
| + | |||
| + | <div style="width:400px;">Farming out in the far north-west can be hard. | ||
| + | |||
| + | On men and machines. | ||
| + | |||
| + | On Hannes Louw's Vryburg farm, so rough that his 16 year old | ||
| + | bakkie eventually couldn't take it any more. | ||
| + | |||
| + | That was about 5 years ago. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Since when its stout-hearted 1300 engine has continued to run | ||
| + | tirelessly. Year in, year out. Pumping water. Generating power. | ||
| + | |||
| + | However making engines that never wear out has given us a problem. | ||
| + | A challenge. To be able to build bodies as everlasting and unbreakable as | ||
| + | our Nissan engines and drive trains always are. | ||
| + | |||
| + | And that's what we're doing now. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Building them better. And stronger. Utilising South Africa's most | ||
| + | advanced rustproofing technology. That belongs to Nissan and Nissan | ||
| + | alone. | ||
| + | |||
| + | So your new bakkie can last as long as its legendary engine. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Because that's your need.</div> | ||
| + | |||
| + | <br><div style="font-size:xx-large;">We are driven</div><br> | ||
| + | |||
| + | == Bone-shaker == | ||
| + | <br><div style="width:400px;">'''If this bone~shaker can't break it, neither can you.'''<br>{{Album|31324}}<br>At Nissan, we must have some of the most positively bloody-minded quality control engineers in the world. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Who take a fierce delight in trying to wreck cars. And bakkies. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Bakkies especially. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Because they know yours is going to be put to work. Hard. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Over rough roads. Or over no roads. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Driven to the limit. Maybe by people who won't take as much care of | ||
| + | it as you would. | ||
| + | |||
| + | So for our bakkies they developed the most fiendishly-destructive test | ||
| + | track that nasty suspicious minds could conceive. A circuit actually worse | ||
| + | than anything you could ever possibly drive over. (In fact that piece of | ||
| + | washboard you can see is one of the better sections). Then they take a | ||
| + | bakkie across it at joint-wrenching speeds. To see if they can make | ||
| + | something break. Or crack. Or squeak. At speeds so high they have to | ||
| + | wear kidney belts to prevent their own bodies from falling apart. | ||
| + | |||
| + | <div style="font-size:xx-large;">We are driven</div> | ||
| + | </div> | ||
| + | |||
| + | == Comfort == | ||
| + | <br><div style="width:400px;">'''Now,extra comfort. Surrounded by a big new cab for 3.'''<br>{{Album|31325}} | ||
| + | Since there's always room for improvement, that's what we did. | ||
| + | |||
| + | By making our little 1/2-tonne bakkie's cab a whole lot bigger. With | ||
| + | more people space. For legs and heads and shoulders and hips. | ||
| + | |||
| + | With 30 mm more height so you get much more effective head room. | ||
| + | Meaning you can sit relaxed and comfortable. Regardless of how tall you | ||
| + | are. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Along with more head room we've also added 55 mm extra leg room. | ||
| + | So you can stretch out. With plenty of clearance for your knees. And | ||
| + | finish a long day or trip still rested and fatigue-free. | ||
| + | |||
| + | But cab comfort goes further than that. Now with position | ||
| + | adjustments to our softer, smarter more comfortable seats. On both the | ||
| + | 2-position 3-person bench seat in our Standard model, or the body-hugging cloth bucket seats in our de Luxe. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Both now come with creature comforts such as fresh air vents, inertial | ||
| + | reels, 3-speed heater/demister, courtesy light, lockable glove box and | ||
| + | day/night mirror with de Luxe adding in instrument illumination fading, | ||
| + | an analogue clock, a parcel tray and thick carpeting to its better finish | ||
| + | overall. On both, a new curved rear window that cuts out reflections is | ||
| + | also standard. Our new 1400 half-tonner. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Because when you've been tops for so long you owe it to your | ||
| + | customers to keep out in front. | ||
| + | |||
| + | <div style="font-size:xx-large;">We are driven</div> | ||
| + | </div> | ||
| + | |||
| + | == Brakes == | ||
| + | <br><div style="width:400px;">'''Nothing ever matched our acceleration. Until now.'''<br>{{Album|31326}} | ||
| + | |||
| + | There's never been any doubt about what a super little goer our 1400 | ||
| + | has always been. | ||
| + | |||
| + | With nothing in its class to touch it. Plus a lot of others in bigger and | ||
| + | more powerful classes. | ||
| + | |||
| + | As we always knew it could go, we decided to stop it. Just as fast. | ||
| + | |||
| + | So we put disc brakes up front. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Nissan's famous Formula I bred fade-free discs. | ||
| + | |||
| + | To stop you quicker ... even fully-loaded. In traffic panic stops. | ||
| + | |||
| + | With lighter pedal pressures. Assisted by vacuum boost and the load | ||
| + | sensing valve built into our dual hydraulic system. | ||
| + | |||
| + | With vastly improved directional stability under wet conditions. | ||
| + | |||
| + | All in all, much stronger and safer stopping power. | ||
| + | |||
| + | To make our heroic 1400 better than ever. | ||
| + | |||
| + | <div style="font-size:xx-large;">We are driven</div> | ||

| + | == Uniprime == | ||
| + | <br><div style="width:400px;">'''Before getting our delivery OK ~ first 3 hard years in Durban.'''<br>{{Album|31327}}{{Album|31328}} | ||
| + | |||
| + | Before you ever get to see your new bakkie, one out of every batch | ||
| + | faces the toughest, most demanding test for weatherproofing ever | ||
| + | thought of. | ||
| + | |||
| + | First we put it through our unique 15-stage corrosion-proofing | ||
| + | process. South Africa's most advanced technology. Absolutely | ||
| + | state-of-the-art. | ||
| + | |||
| + | To protect it. With a process unique to Nissan. Called {{search|JPS6173899A|Uniprime}}. | ||
| + | |||
| + | That deposits a 40-micron thick tenacious rustproofing coat. (That's | ||
| + | about twice as good as the next best electrocathodic process). | ||
| + | Then we take that bakkie and subject it to accelerated tropical heating. To | ||
| + | pressure salt spraying. And to rough-road driving to drive the deadly salt | ||
| + | crystals deep into the seams. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Then we bake it, spray it and flex it all over again. For 3 weeks. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Equivalent to 3 hard years work at the coast. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Finally we tear it apart. Literally. Seam by seam. Weld by weld. All | ||
| + | 5 000 or so of them. Ending up with a pile of battered body panels. | ||
| + | |||
| + | To prove to ourselves what we really knew. That our rustproofing | ||
| + | really proofs. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Then — and only then — are the other bakkies from the same batch | ||
| + | released for delivery. To you. So you can be absolutely sure of yours. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Wherever it goes. | ||
| + | |||
| + | <div style="font-size:xx-large;">We are driven</div> | ||

| + | |||
| + | <div style="width:400px;">'''Our business end.<br>Now even more businesslike.'''<br>{{Album|31329}} | ||
| + | |||
| + | Since we've always believed in changing anything that we could for | ||
| + | the better ... and not changing anything that couldn't be improved — over | ||
| + | the years our B140 bakkie has kept up with the times. | ||
| + | |||
| + | Just recently we decided (since you work them so hard) it was time to | ||
| + | upgrade the business end. | ||
| + | |||
| + | To make it work even harder for you. | ||
| + | |||
| + | So here are some of the changes for the better we've made. | ||
| + | |||
| + | We made the rear window bars removeable. | ||
| + | |||
| + | We added rubber down stops and chains to the tailgate for when you | ||
| + | want to carry long loads. | ||
| + | |||
| + | We also installed a fuel tank inspection plate. And added body side | ||
| + | protection mouldings to our de Luxe. | ||
| + | |||
| + | So you can get more business from your bakkie. | ||

What makes us different is what makes us better.
We've always taken the view that what's right for our cars is not necessarily right for our bakkies. Which is why you find us building front-wheel drive cars. But not front-wheel drive bakkies. Never☁.
The reason being that — despite the trendy fashion towards 'bakkies' that are really cut-off passenger cars with a load box tacked on the back — our bakkie has always had rear-wheel drive.
Why? Simple. The back is where you carry the load.
To operate effectively and successfully with a load, there's only one right place for that to be. Over the traction wheels.
So you'll never see our 1400 bakkie with anything but rear-wheel drive.
Meaning the heavier you load it, the harder it will work for you. No matter what the others do. Because we're building bakkies to match our indestructible engines.

Engine
Making engines like ours can be a very hard act to follow.
[image: engine with orange air cleaner and Lucas AS123 alternator]
On men and machines.
On Hannes Louw's Vryburg farm, so rough that his 16 year old bakkie eventually couldn't take it any more.
That was about 5 years ago.
Since when its stout-hearted 1300 engine has continued to run tirelessly. Year in, year out. Pumping water. Generating power.
However making engines that never wear out has given us a problem. A challenge. To be able to build bodies as everlasting and unbreakable as our Nissan engines and drive trains always are.
And that's what we're doing now.
Building them better. And stronger. Utilising South Africa's most advanced rustproofing technology. That belongs to Nissan and Nissan alone.
So your new bakkie can last as long as its legendary engine.
Because that's your need.Bone-shaker

At Nissan, we must have some of the most positively bloody-minded quality control engineers in the world.
Who take a fierce delight in trying to wreck cars. And bakkies.
Bakkies especially.
Because they know yours is going to be put to work. Hard.
Over rough roads. Or over no roads.
Driven to the limit. Maybe by people who won't take as much care of it as you would.
So for our bakkies they developed the most fiendishly-destructive test track that nasty suspicious minds could conceive. A circuit actually worse than anything you could ever possibly drive over. (In fact that piece of washboard you can see is one of the better sections). Then they take a bakkie across it at joint-wrenching speeds. To see if they can make something break. Or crack. Or squeak. At speeds so high they have to wear kidney belts to prevent their own bodies from falling apart.
Comfort
Since there's always room for improvement, that's what we did.
By making our little 1/2-tonne bakkie's cab a whole lot bigger. With more people space. For legs and heads and shoulders and hips.
With 30 mm more height so you get much more effective head room. Meaning you can sit relaxed and comfortable. Regardless of how tall you are.
Along with more head room we've also added 55 mm extra leg room. So you can stretch out. With plenty of clearance for your knees. And finish a long day or trip still rested and fatigue-free.
But cab comfort goes further than that. Now with position adjustments to our softer, smarter more comfortable seats. On both the 2-position 3-person bench seat in our Standard model, or the body-hugging cloth bucket seats in our de Luxe.
Both now come with creature comforts such as fresh air vents, inertial reels, 3-speed heater/demister, courtesy light, lockable glove box and day/night mirror with de Luxe adding in instrument illumination fading, an analogue clock, a parcel tray and thick carpeting to its better finish overall. On both, a new curved rear window that cuts out reflections is also standard. Our new 1400 half-tonner.
Because when you've been tops for so long you owe it to your customers to keep out in front.
Brakes
There's never been any doubt about what a super little goer our 1400 has always been.
With nothing in its class to touch it. Plus a lot of others in bigger and more powerful classes.
As we always knew it could go, we decided to stop it. Just as fast.
So we put disc brakes up front.
Nissan's famous Formula I bred fade-free discs.
To stop you quicker ... even fully-loaded. In traffic panic stops.
With lighter pedal pressures. Assisted by vacuum boost and the load sensing valve built into our dual hydraulic system.
With vastly improved directional stability under wet conditions.
All in all, much stronger and safer stopping power.
To make our heroic 1400 better than ever.
Uniprime

Before you ever get to see your new bakkie, one out of every batch faces the toughest, most demanding test for weatherproofing ever thought of.
First we put it through our unique 15-stage corrosion-proofing process. South Africa's most advanced technology. Absolutely state-of-the-art.
To protect it. With a process unique to Nissan. Called Uniprimeᴳ.
That deposits a 40-micron thick tenacious rustproofing coat. (That's about twice as good as the next best electrocathodic process). Then we take that bakkie and subject it to accelerated tropical heating. To pressure salt spraying. And to rough-road driving to drive the deadly salt crystals deep into the seams.
Then we bake it, spray it and flex it all over again. For 3 weeks.
Equivalent to 3 hard years work at the coast.
Finally we tear it apart. Literally. Seam by seam. Weld by weld. All 5 000 or so of them. Ending up with a pile of battered body panels.
To prove to ourselves what we really knew. That our rustproofing really proofs.
Then — and only then — are the other bakkies from the same batch released for delivery. To you. So you can be absolutely sure of yours.
Wherever it goes.
Improvements
[image: removable rear window guard bars]
[image: rectangular headlights]
[image: tailgate chains]
Now even more businesslike.
Since we've always believed in changing anything that we could for the better ... and not changing anything that couldn't be improved — over the years our B140 bakkie has kept up with the times.
Just recently we decided (since you work them so hard) it was time to upgrade the business end.
To make it work even harder for you.
So here are some of the changes for the better we've made.
We made the rear window bars removeable.
We added rubber down stops and chains to the tailgate for when you want to carry long loads.
We also installed a fuel tank inspection plate. And added body side protection mouldings to our de Luxe.
So you can get more business from your bakkie.
