Aftermarket

There are several common coils in the Australian Bosch GT coil range.

  • GT40: an oil filled conventional type sports coil, 3 ohm
  • GT40R: same as GT40, but 1.5 ohm for use with a ballast resistor
  • GT40T: a 'transformer' style sports coil potted in epoxy, 3 ohm
  • GT40RT: same style as GT40T, but 1.5 ohm

GT40R or GT40RT can be used as a direct replacement for the stock 1200 coil, but is less powerful than the stocker 1.3 ohm coil.

Bosch Blue
The Bosch black coil uses varnish & tar in its construction, the blue coil uses Formavar (a high temp varnish) and polypropylene. In theory, the blue coil should hold up better at higher temperatures but in fact both coils do about the same.

Bosch EI
Bosch HEC715 is used with electronic ignition.
