Starting with 1973 USA models, the anti-dieseling valve was added. This is an idle-circuit cutoff solenoid. As soon as the key is turned off, the engine dies.

Overview
Anti-Diesel solenoid valve comes on some 1973 and newer carbs.
Wiring
- Yellow wire - fuel cut solenoid To general IG circuit (hot when key is Run or Start)
Troubleshooting
- Turn the key to IGN, engine OFF. Then unplug the connector at the valve (under the engine). Does the Anti-disel valve have 12V at the wiring connector?
No: Check your fuses...trace the wires and see why it's not getting power
Yes: Have someone turn the ignition on & off while you listen carefully to hear the 'click' as it is turned on.
- No click? Bypass the valve (as below). If this allows the engine to idle correctly, then repair the wiring or replace the solenoid with a working one.
Bypassing the Anti-Diesel Valve
Unscrew the solenoid from the carburetor and take out the 'pin' in the middle. Then re-install the solenoid. Start engine to see if all is well.
It will no longer 'cut' the engine immediately, but otherwise the engine will run well with this pin removed.
