Speeduino is the new open-source engine ECU. It can run ignition-only, EFI-only or a combination. It can trigger COP or coil packs. It uses the Arduino Mega 2560 ($23 as of 2022) and reportedly works well with many Arduino clones (as inexpensive as $13). Speeduino fully assembled starts at $160 USD (2022) or $10 for the bare PCB board. Add sensors, wiring, and CPU and it's ready to go. The Tuner Studio software even has an auto-tune feature if you supply an O2 sensor.

<Speeduino> can use any many different types "decoders".

  • Nissan Optical CAS such as RB, E15ET, CA18DET, SR20, etc. Configure Tuner Studio for "Nissan 360" decoder
  • Ford-style #36-1 crank trigger wheel

Speeduino directly supports four 'smart' coils with built in igniters. No external ignitor is needed.

You can also use dumb COPs (2 pin type) by adding an ignitor module such as CA18DET ignitor or SR20 ignitor.

Use a common Ford VR sensor with a $25 add-on Speeduino VR Conditioner board.

Or, use a more expensive 3-wire Hall Sensor without needing an add-on board.

You can use Ford, Chrysler or GM twin coil packs. Or, you can use four smart (low-current) Coil on Plug units, with two pairs wired together. See Speeduino Ignition
