 Re: hi-lux caliper
could you possibly take a picture of the backside of this stut?
Is the strut modified in ANY way to get that caliper to bolt on?
Thanks.

I don't mean to be pedantic.
But in the interests of accuracy they aren't Hilux calipers.
Hilux 4WD all had solid disc until LN106 range.
And as these are vented discs and don't appear to have any spacers between the 2 halves I'd be confident that these are Landcruider calipers.
All Landcruisers had these calipers until the HZJ75 series when they changed the design to have 4 pistons the same size instead of staggered sizes like these ones. 80 series are different again.

I actually have a casting mob looking at doing these in alloy instead of cast. But I don't think anything will ever come of it. Shame really as they are a good conversion for dattos, toyotas, and even sigmas.

pretty sure you can get em off hi-lux's too, even the 4x4 wrecker knew what i was talking about when i asked him for hi-lux calipers ages ago and he said "we sell heaps of them, we've worked out exactly which model hi-lux you have to get them off for them to fit", but i'll look into it cause i could be wrong.

it's always been hi-lux or landcruiser calipers that could be used as far as i knew

i reckon you remove those calipers and your disks'll look huge. Pity they are so heavy but hey they pull it up very well RC.

 Re: hi-lux caliper
How much would it have cost for the pattern to do them in alloy? I think there would be a good market for them!
The equal piston diameter ones are virtually the same as my works 4 spot Dunlop Mk 63A calipers if the bodies were trimmed down a bit to get rid of some mass.
These work very well when warmed up on my sunny with the old DS11 pad material

I'll see if I can get the engineering diagrams back from the caster.
DS2500 or DS3000 would be the go nowdays for yours Errol. DS11 died about the same time 1200rallycar was born....lol.

For the 4 spot Cruiser/Hilux calipers heres a rundown on what they fit.
I'll use my part #'s as a way of identifying the units.

EC460 all 4wd hilux 79-88 up till LN106. These use staggered piston sizes. Only came in solid disc configuration.Take DB288 pads

EC526 LN106 and LN130 89-91.All same size pistons (same size as larger one in EC460). Only came in vented disc configuration. Take DB1149 pads

After 91 and for the later models like LN167 and the various imports I don't carry stock of them so I don't have a #. All have vented discs. DB1149 pads

All landcruisers to 1990 when the HZJ series started used the same caliper
EC458 same staggered piston design as EC460 but fitted vented disc. There was an odd L/cruiser with solid discs but you'd be hard pressed to come across one of those so its irrelevent (would be EC460 if you had these). DB288 pads

HZJ75 series EC526. Same caliper as LN106/130 hilux. All pistons large size and vented disc only.DB1149 pads

HZJ79 is the later traybacks troopys and use a different caliper (EC142) vented disc and all pistons same large size. DB1365 pads

HZJ80 there are 2 different calipers. Both use larger pistons again than the EC526 and are avail with 2 different mounts and gaps for 2 thickness discs. My #'s EC532 and EC534 respectively. DB1199 pads

100 series run a bigger caliper again. Staggered piston design again with a larger piston again than the 80 series and 2 pistons the same size as the 80 series. Require genuine pistons and kits at this stage to overhaul as the aftermarket hasn't caught up yet. I don't carry these calipers yet so no part #. DB1365 pads

I can still buy DS11 material pads for mine from Nismo in Japan. They are only $140 a pair and last better than the local stuff I have tried.
At Sandown last time I ran a freind took the sunny for a run and it took him a lap to get the material up to temp. When he came into XR8 corner, the brakes were barking. He locked up and went all the way across the Kitty litter He was a bit more cautious after that. The next time into turn one he was able to make his face start to peel.
DS11 material may be old but it is good asbestos based pad material cough cough wheeze. (Its my mesothelioma playing up)

Which of the later materials is closest to DS11 in performance?

TS2000 hard street/light track in not too heavy cars

DS2500 hard street/light comp/club days

DS3000 full comp high friction

DS3000 plus full comp extremely high friction/good qualifying pad

DS3000 enduro longer lasting DS3000 but with slightly less friction. (used by HRT and K-Mart cars last year. Only cars on that compound last year. This year nearly half the field is on it. This is the closest to DS11 but much better as far as initial bite without warmup.DB1170 skyline shape is what you would modify to fit the factory sumitomos. In DS2500 its $215 and in DS3000 I think its closer to $380. So your $140 sets are an O.K. option till Dec when its illegal to possess asbestos based pads.

DS4000 "secret" formula 1 pad designed for those that wanted to qualify on cast discs instead of using carbon fibre. CF cools so quickly you can touch the disc in the time it takes to take the wheel off from a 300km/h stop. This can induce lockup on corners as the pad/disc cools so much during the straight that when you hit the brakes at the next corner the whole lot is too cold to work efficiently.
Some racers would qualify on cast discs and DS4000 so they could maintain feel and confidence on the big 1 lap dash. New rules stopped this though as you have to run the qualifying lap in race trim.
I have a F1 disc at work.......CF one that is. Very light. $15 000 per disc and $10 000 for a set of pads. All to fit under 13" wheels.
