Aren't these supposed to have squirrely handling?

Squirrely handling would be an understatement. They were a bitch of a thing to control according to those who had the pleasure of driving them.

There was a memorable test by Paul Gover (Australian motoring journalist and respectable competeition driver) in the mid 1980s. He loved them because they were exciting to drive, but could not say enough bad about the handling habits.

what's wrong with squirrely? Some of us like squirrely... I don't know how mine handles yet - it hasn't got enough power to find out!

drool R30 coupe... did I mention I have one of these? An R30 that is, not one of these Peter Jackson race cars unfortunately...

Just a few weeks ago someone was telling me about this car being rebuilt on the coast. Good to see it being restored. Does he have any plans to race it with the GrpC (and invited GrpA) Historic races?

Aaah, too cool!

I had a DR30-RSx roadcar with the FJ turbo, ironmask front etc many many years ago...

Wish I'd just tucked it in a corner, rather than sell it....

 Re: SETON`S old car
from what I've seen of the other Gibson Motorsport Nissans of the era, they all see to have had Hollingers with Magnesium bellhousings, and an oil cooler of course...

Nice to see the car in good hands.

If I remember correctly they used to stretch the rules of the time to the limit. A bit like today really!
They used to use the windscreen washer knob as a manual boost controller amoung other things - definately not allowed
One turbo was dedicated to qualifying and thrown away afterwards because it would be rooted because they would run such high boost pressures for qualifying at Bathurst.

1200coupe, I think you're confusing it with a story on the GrpC Bluebird in Zoom magazine!

 Re: SETON`S old car
If the owner of this car is serious about taking it back to original racing specifications then a phone call to Beau Seton or Fred Gibson will be a huge help. As long as you inform them that you are serious about a professional restoration and restoring one of Nissans finest then more than likely they will be keen to give you any info needed. Ring them once and write all your questions down beforehand, that way you wont have to continually ring them or bother them.
It surprises me that there is no written history about this Ex Seton car.
