Re: Get it ALL off Well, Christmas has come & gone, the nice car doctor has had a little break & work is progressing again. When the rear window was removed, a small area, about the size of your little toenail was found to be rusty. There was no perforation through any metal, but if left untouched, it would eventually get that way, so this is being cleaned up. Repairs to the left rear quarter panel have been completed & the firewall is to be modified with a Porta Power to allow adequate clearance for the 5 speed's clutch arm. Bashing it with a hammer is not going to happen on this one.
The rear wheel arches will have the lips rolled, properly, as will the front. This adds to the strength of the front ones as well as removing the possibility of catching the tyre in it.
No matter what it takes, the body has got to be as perfect as we can make it, & that's where all the money is going first, all else is secondary. The current budget allocation for the bodyshell, repaired, painted & with a new vinyl top is $6,000 which is not too bad if it comes out the way i want it. It could even be less.
P.S. The car in the background is a Studebaker Gran Tourismo Convertible. It's halfway through a full, off-the-chassis, total rebuild. This one was really crook with both accident & rust damage. A brand new front fender /mudguard was sourced within Australia. Bloody amazing.
