I'd bet this is/was Rex Pike's old racecar (Masterton NZ). I think it ended up getting 'exported' back to Japan by a subsequent owner during the '90s. Was a VERY quick A12. Where and when was this photo taken? Not a rotor.

It was on Yahoo Auction Japan just yesterday. The reason I asked about rotary is you can see two motor mounts far apart just in front of the firewall.

It does look very much like Rex's:
