Well one time he told me what happened after a very dusty sandy rally. He pulled off the carbs and noticed the inside the inlet manifold looked like it was well blasted. I doubt all the sand got out though hence he was pulling it down.

edit: Blow, I'm not Ian I'm Aidan aka:LFO\LDO

edit edit: Yes, yes it was. He's rebuilt the thing heaps more times than I remember to various levels of grenadiness

Would that be Nathans R30 Skyline?

Just for info - Ians diff was made by me, I machined up two. one for me and one for Ian, Nismo H165 guts with a solid steel carrier to replace the weak cast steel carrier, we also run the same gearbox full of Albins gears. photo of the diff somewhere in my pics.

Yeah that's the one, he just knows how to get the attitude right when cornering.

I took these pics at in the service park at Benarkin weekend before last, at the first QRC round. First time I've been able to have a close look at the car - very well built. And he's a serious peddler!

Yeah Ian used to rally for Ford back in the early 1970s, i think he did that for many years...its amazing where he finishes againest the Rexs and evos (3rds & 4ths) with that little pushrod aseries!!..just shows that you can have all the gear on the car, but in the end it comes down to the brains behind the wheel....

yeah, rallying is very much about the driver - more so than other forms of motorsport.

Just lurking though the pictures heres and noticed this. NIce to know that people apreciate what I used to look at on an almost daily basis. You should see the R30 skyline one of his employees races, went for a run in a porsche and then the R30 and it was hella better.

Ian,

I enjoyed the picture of your rally engine. I was wondering if you ever have any problems with dirt getting into the carb bowl vents, which are not filtered at all in the photo?
