 Re: estoril.3
Can anyone explain to me why the deluxe/S1 emblems on the sides (in front of rear window). Why are they in different places on these cars. Is this a Nissan quality problem? or a project rebuild problem?

Chris

Project rebuild problem, the only one without a new paint job is the last one on the picture and the only S1 There.

And by the way it is Brancos brothers 's S1

OK blokes, i thought that i was reasonably "up" on 1200's, but the S1 is new to me.

Anyone care to dispell my ignorance about these?

In Portugal, they had a "special" version called the S1. It was similar in concept to the New Zealand SSS.

The guys that started this site "the Branco Brothers" (Daniel and Pedro) own a black S1, and I'm sure they can tell you more.

From the Technical Archive:

Datsun of Portugal created and sold the S1 2-dr Sedan. It included:
package: Tachometer, oil pressure and ammeter gauge
fog lights
S1 badge
A12 engine with Red ignition coil and 75 HP rating

I reckon the S1 is the ultimate 2-dr sedan, seeing as there were no GX versions (GX was only available in 4-dr and coupe).

As far as as know, is that The S1 was a sporty version modifyed by the portuguese dealer Entreposto Nissan.

There as rummors about an S2,but I have never seen one.

These are the changes:

Mechanical changes
* double valve springs
* free flow exhaust system
* head work (+compression)

they claimed more 6 HP at the time.

Other
* Tach meter
* oil pressure
* amp meter
* fog lights
* S1 badge
* Larger weels
*smaller sporty driving wheel
+large stripe on each side of the car

Some body modifications that I only found when restoring the car: the interior of the flares was bent over from 90 degres to 180, so you have more space for the enlarged wheels.

you can find pictures of the central console in here

I this album Pre-Rustoration you can find original pictures of an Datsun 1200 S1, when we bought it the car as completly original, never had a paint job.

this is our third 1200, so you notice that in this one you the engine revs a lot easier at high rpms.

You dont see so many S1's in Portugal, the car was reasonaly more expensive compared to the deluxe model.
Many try to copy some of the S1 look, the enlarged wheels, the central console, or the sports driving wheel. I have only seen about 4 that I notice they where original

I will try to investigate more about this model, rumors said that the mentor of this car was a guy called "Saraiva", so I dont know if the "S" is from "Super" , "Sports", "Sedan" or this guy last name.

Thats all I know of,

Daniel started a discussion when we boght the car, you can discuss it in the forum here

Keep it sideways,

Pedro Branco
