FRom what I remember it has an A12 with alot of detailing...
This was at the Four and Rotary Nationals when it was in Goulburn. This 1200 is about to have a go at the "GO-TO-WHOAH"...

I had a 1200 sedan in Tassie a few years back I bought from a mate. It had a ute rear with 4.1 and 13x 5.5" rims A12 with Wade cam and single 40DCOE weber extractors and some head work.

Stanza struts and brakes and good rear shocks made that car phenominal on the west coast of tassie

P.S. This was the only car I have ever valve bounced in top gear

I've seen that
It was in the readers cars section of fast fours a while back.. he must have done work on the engine bay because it was 'functional' grimey. it had webers though.

YEah thats where I saw the egnine. I was thinking about it and I am not usre if it was an A12 or an A14 in it now... But yeah it had twins or osmething and I believe everyting in the engine bay was beneton coloured Wahtever takes you fancy I guess though.
It also did a pretty poor burnout... started clutch slipping and everybody in the crowd realised it but not the drievr or co driver...
Smelt bad afterwards...

This looks cool but if the boot lids profile was lowered to follow the bodies natural curve it would look better!

Right now it looks like they just cut the roof and said cool!
But i still like it even if I would do it differently

A removable cover for the back seat, like on old Corvette and Thunderbird coupes, might help clean up the body lines.

I reckon the sedans are a better thing actually. Aren't they 10kg (22lb) or so lighter than the coupe? Stronger shape with the big 'C' pillar in the right place - above the rear wheel arch. Combined with the rear bulkhead/firewall (you know what I mean)should make it a much stiffer shell, and a better platform for your suspension to work from. The extra headroom from the higher roofline would be useful for me as well. Plus shockies that compress one inch for each inch of suspension travel is a better idea, and they mount in a stronger part of the bodyshell. That ought to be enough to get things going

in theory and apparently in practice, Tayell Automotive has told me from his experience rallying 1200's that a sedan will handle better, he actually told me that if i wasnt too far along in building the coupe i should get a sedan for my rallycar

mainly because the shocks are upright, versus the angled ones of the coupe (sort of what L18_B110 was saying with travel)

a roll cage and a little seam welding would eliminate any chassis twist diffrences between the two if you were getting that serious anyway

But the coupe is so sexy

Remember that in the US we have the 2-dr sedan only.

And that makes a huge difference. It's quite a bit more interesting than the coupe.

Besides, the coupes have been done to death. So boring, every Datsun club has a coupe.

And the sedan doesn't have that annoying wind boom sound the coupes suffer from.

we are talking about twist from hitting bumps and hard cornering more so than engine torque

Wind boom sound. OK, the two coupes I owned I never drove over 40mph, so I'm not speaking from actual experience. I've heard that at high speed, the coupe roof/hatch area makes noises. My 1979 Ford Fairmont wagon did something like this.

With the sedan, the only noise is from the engine and tires -- and the closed front window vents!

Here's my 5 cents worth, from lying underneath a few of them I have noticed that the 1200 ute floorpan is very similar to a coupe. As the ute has a big empty box called a tray at the back, I figure chopping the roof off a coupe shouldn't be much different. As for the sedan being a better choice for rallying, if both cars were stock I'd agree but any one whose serious about perfomance will install a good cage to tie a 30 year old shell together and most serious rally coupes have turreted rear shocks mounted off the back of the cage. Over here sedans used to be the choice for rallying because they were cheaperand panel repairs were easier with the 4 drs but most of NZs sedans are rusty by now cos they were locally assembled and poorly rustproofed. So as a result coupes now are the more common rally weapon. PS All NZs coupes were imported fully asssembled to far higher Japanese standards.
