YEah Ok ok I know how alot of you feel about rotarys in 1200's but this thing was completely axe. Can't remember what was done to it but it was so loud and it was very F***ing quick. Did a massive burnout at the burnout comp but unfortunately overheated after about a minute... The thing was only used to drag racing unfortunately...

 Re: Rotor Ute
After a extended absence from the scene, this ute reappeared at the recent Supernats at Eastern Creek. Hopefully here is a link to a video of a run.

Yeah, I guess there's no such thing as "All Nissan", although I understand the reluctance to change the engine brand. I too prefer Nissan engines and up to now have only put A-series in my 1200. Well, except for the time I trial-fitted a Ford 2.8 (it doesn't fit very well).

Looking at it another way, we club members change the brand of wheels, seats, etc on our 1200s, so why stop at the engine? Isn't anything that works well worth doing, regardless of the original manufacturer? As we know, even Nissan made rotary engines and put one in a 1200.

I wasn't going to get involved in this episode of "bash and defend the Wanker (oops that should say Wankel) engine" but I can hold back no longer.

Um. Hmmm.

I can't believe this. I spent so much time composing that opening sentence, I forgot what I had to say.
Sorry folks, I guess I'm getting senile.

 Re: Rotor Ute
A few words in pro of the rotary engine , which happens to be a German creation, mass produced by the Japanesse, words which remind us that the rotary is just a means of creating power out of a gasoline combustion engine, and soon Nissan, Toyota, and others will offer their own Wankel engines. The patent used by Mazda will expire and any manufacturer will be able to offer its own version. The wankel(aversion to rotary engines ) could end up behaving like the boomerang, throw it away and it will always come back at you.I would like to see a triple or quatrorotor Nissan 1200"R" or B210"R" or 120"R".
Just a thought.
Jaime

A lot of us like the idea of rotary-powered 1200s. To each his own.

Just as long as you use a Nissan brake booster, and not some Lancer part! Keep it real, keep it all Nissan.

 Re: Rotor Ute
DDs made it clear.
My 1000 and others 1200s have all kinds of other manufacturers goodies. I chose the 1000 for its weight and size its just a toy. But the 1200 is like one of the only mass produced cars in the world that resembles a kit car the body is light and sturdy (for a sheet of kleenex anyway) and it lends itself to many great mods and that being the engine as well. Just look at the Lolas which have had every kind of engine and other parts in Le mans. There are many examples but unlike the lotus 7 or caterham and its mutations the 1200 is a hardtop and its afforfadable and so is the 1000 if you can find one. However the best engine is up to the user as long as it doesnt ruin its handling or twist the body which although cheap albeit theyre getting harder to find.
Nissan is no longer Nissan anyway as Renault has the major stake in its shares and it was a sad day when I got back in Japan a month and a bit ago and saw the Nissan showroom full of rebadged renaults sitting in them.
Keep it nissan well Nissan tried to incorrectly combat Toyota by releasing alot of useless cars and different engines to outdo Toyota at its own game that it failed and now renaults parasited their way in to tried and save them from the scrap heap with their old stupid copy what toyota makes and make it cheaper and make the workers suffer as Toyota employees had a different philosophy which still applies today thanks to its caring and much loved by many famous founder). I hate the look of anything toyota made except the gt2000 (240z's originator) and the ke25 which was the reason the 1200 appeared and kicked its butt with its lighter kleenex design and big port A series compared to toyotas much better designed and stronger k series which never got anywhere with its 100kgs heavier body and small port design unless it had the tc head). The 1200 is the car that got the a12 unlike the 1000 which was limited to the a10 in world racing rules and to hear that someone puts a much heavier sr20 instead of the ca18 is just because the sr20 has better designed factory flow rate than the ca. Unlike the famous 40year old die cast (not sand cast) lightweight fiat twin cam which nissan derived with the ca18 the all-alloy 40 year old alfa TC (sand cast) version with the sr20 (sand cast). The high comp fiat tc 1600 even with its 8 valve version head produced more hp from a factory tiny single carb form than any injected ca18NA did with 200cc less) Thats why Steve Newing spent so much moula and time redesigning the ca head to het 230hp! He chose the ca18 for its lighter weight and its in a stanza body!!!
We are lucky to get so many choices for the 1200 and the rotary with its millions and squillions less development still is the engine of choice for big cheap power and the most commonly used engine used in ex-4cyl cars for those in the quarter mile stakes.
Its up to us to help each other with our problems or challenges in the choices we personally make wether its fitting a L,CA, SR, rotary, fiat TC, Toyo or others. However I personally would like to see conversions that dont butch the look of our ageing dattos. If its done with taste and its done right without destroying the body though twisting or malbalance (eg cast iron 500lb v8s or 6s) then the owner should be respected. Well we should respect any datto that doesnt have an engine over 170 kgs. Yes that means an alloy chev v8 at 185kgs misses out and so does the old pom buick copy alloy v8 at 177kgs!
Oh forgot about Mitsus I hate this company with a passion and so would many if you find out how they go about businesss and who owns and who is behind them.
