Wow! Just joined up

What year - would be 1974 or 75.

I was working with the Honda Civic a few cars behind in hte photo that year.

That car was the fastest "standard" 1200 Coupe in the world in its day.

Built and driven by "Wild" Bill Evans for the Datsun Race Team.

He won his class at Bathurst and Sandown over several years with it.

How come it was much faster that other 1200's and Corolla's. Lets just say Wild Bill was smarter than the Scrutineers of the day!

I probably have a few photos of it and know a few people who could provide a bit more technical info. But it was basically "Stock Standard", them where the rules of the day.

SIMON.
HI i was working for the Datsun team at this time,Bill Evans only drove the car in its early years as i and Karl Scmit(ex south african rally team mechanic)did most of the work on it.
Bill had control of the car in it last couple of years running. The coupe was a factory GX,came with 5 speed,LSD,Oval port head Twin carbs, thats why nobody could get near it as no one else had these parts for their 1200s in those days.
As you say Bill was very clever he eventualy put 2x45mm webers on it(legaly).Dont know were the car ended up or whos got it,you may be able to find out as Bills workshop is still open run by his brother. TOTEH GOOD OLD DAYS..GREG.

Did I read "3 speed heater/ demister" in the blurb of that ad? That would be fast, slow & off wouldn't it?
Mine's a 5/73 built car & that's the three speeds in my heater.
The locking fuel 'cap' is not even listed in the parts book & was not needed as they came with a locking fuel filler access 'door' so it would seem that a bit of creativity was a prerequisite for ad writers.
