Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) Hi guys Sorry to drop in to your chat about the 140y,I saw the article of the 160z and maybe it would interesting to you to know that I own one that is still in a good condition. I took the side drafts off because they were really getting old and need to be replased but I am running a 36/36 dcd for time being.

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) Whats so different with the bonnet etc? I know of one imported to Australia and its got a standard 120Y bonnet and guards. I dont think the grill is anything special either.
And whats with the 140Z and 140Y badging? 2 different cars or different markets? The one i know is a 140Y and has a L14.

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) thats probably because the PB210 specific front end parts have been "borrowed" off it years ago... or maybe they got bent... the PB210 guards aren't all that different to normal B210 guards infact I'm sure they are the same pressing... exept the indicators are nearer to the leading edge of the guards see they are in the title pic... oh no they aren't they are an "excellent" part shame about that KPB210 if it was just rolled and the L14 wasn't dead, It might have been worth putting the best bits into a spare, almost RUST FREE 120Y 4 door sedan shell I have...unfortunately I I don't have the time to do that either...

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) Oh that 140Y will be getting re-shelled. By Team-Dat. As soon a his blue coupe is regoed hes 'allowed' to buy the 140Y. The L14 may still be good, just been sitting for a while. We'll have to wait and see on that one!

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) Hi Rab,
Can you take a pic of the engine-compartment build plate and post it here (or email it to me)? We are most curious to know the official Suid-Afrika model number (long number).
Thanks in advance.

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) i am not forgetting about the 1976 JDM B210 with L16 engine i am wondering if in 1980, za may have been the only country making the l-series equipped b210 (or any b210 for that matter) 140z id plate is here

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) That is interesting, South Africa used the "Excellent" or "Z" bodies with A series too?? I wonder why would the South African plant "Regress" to make A series PB's instead of upgrading or else remaining L series. Is there a real advantage in having a A series to a L series??? Yes, more petrol consumption if comparing an A series to a L20B, but what about the L14, 16... interesting questions.
South Africa would had made a fortune if it were decided to export the 140 and 160Z cars overseas. Perhaps Nissan World opperations would had precluded South Africa Nissan from such action.
About the body being the same as the 120Y/B210 , that is correct , only untill you reach the front end. Both fenders are diferrent in the front side, where these meet the grille and the apron underneath. The apron is different ,more pointy and protruding. The bumper and the bumper brackets are by association different as well. The bonnet is obviously longer and pointier, not by much, but enough to be unfitable in a non modified B210/120Y.The frontal edge of the bonet is thicker and flatter. Under the bonnet, the plataform where the engine lid/bonnet latch is located is larger as well. Aside from that, the rear tailight panel is different. If anyone wanted to fit a PB/Z/Excellent front end, the bonnet, fenders, apron and engine bonnet latch plataform would have to be replaced at the same time.
Since it was produced in South Africa, I wonder if South Africa Nissan still has some parts for these cars.

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) jaime, don't forget the unique b-pillar vent and triple sidemarker lightsnissan za did not "regress" in supplanting the L14 with the A14 they were doing a similar thing that nissan japan had done some years before for the jdm, the b210, the a12 was ugraded to an a14 and in the pb210, the L14 was upgraded to a L16 apparently, the y and z series datsuns were the most popular models sold in za at that time i wonder where they all went to?

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) Mmmmm, 1200GXman found a 140Z parked at someone's house, in Bloemfontein ZA. Apparently it's been under wraps for many years, and is still in excellent condition. The guys wants 50K ZAR for it, that's about 12K AUD. Will try convince him to get some pics...

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) not 100% sure but I think ALL south african B210/PB210's shared the "excellent" bonnet/front panels... there is a 120Y on this site (green 4 door sedan) that has PB210 style front panels/grille...

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) 120Y bakkie = 1200 ute... as Datsun South africa had switched to the 120Y the 1200 ute was sold as a 120Y...

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) interesting ... so the 140y with the a14 replaced the 140y with the L14 also, the article i'm reading is dated 1980, so not only was za the only country building b210's with l-series, they might have been the only country building b210's edit: AT THAT TIME i wonder when production ceased? or did it?

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) Quote: Ah, so there was a B210 "140Y". Yes, my grandmother drove one for many years, it was a 140Y with the A14. She bought it after she sold her 510 1600... We eventually sold the 140Y from under her, because she was becoming a danger on the road at 85 years of age, even though she only drove around her small town of about 10000 people, called Bothaville. 1200GXman would know where that is... When we sold it, you could see the road through a hole in the floor, and the steering had a quarter turn play to each side before it would respond. I asked her how she drove it, because I nearly hit the curb going around a bend on my way to deliver it to the new(and dare I say happy) owner. She responded that one just gets used to it... Also the shocks were so shot that if you rocked the car on one of it's front fenders it would hit the bump stops after about 3 pushes. We never knew it was in such bad state, because she lived in another town, and we always drove her around in our cars when we visited. She originally bought it for 3200 ZAR and we sold it for 3500 ZAR...!!! Well it was about 20 years later...

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) this new (old) info coming from umtali sheds new (old) light on the za "excellent" variants
for instance, i bet few would've guessed that "excellent" bodied cars were available with a-series?

Re: 160Z Road Test (ZA) thx mate, but that's a bit off topic anyway, mawler is correct in that all za b210's seem to have been equipped by the factory with "excellent" bonnet, guards, grill, front bumper & grill so you could have an a12 4dr with an "excellent" front end. how cool is that? to answer one question, the "excellent" front sheet metal is definitely different, spend a few minutes studying and comparing and you'll agree the car imported to oz could've had the aussie 120y front end installed prior to a collision. who knows? to answer another question, the "z" suffix was applied to early coupes with the l-series but the "z" was dropped circa 1980? (fo insurance reasons?) and l-series equipped equipped coupes were simply called a 160y
