As the pic was loading I was starting to think I'd see the tree growing up through the engine bay of your car LOL I've seen a few of those around

DD,
if your question was a serious one - its probably a Eucalyptus Manifera.
These Gum trees were planted in selected parts of the US after seed stock from Australia was sent to the States many years ago.

I am going to get "Brain bashed" for answering such a question on a 1200 site

Yes it was serious question, trees (big trees) are another hobby of mine. Once I drove my Datsun down to Oregon to see the "world's largest Sitka Spruce". That one was so big it was hard to tell just how big it was (you couldn't see it all at once).

Yes the picture was taken in California while I was driving the 1200 north to its new home in Seattle.

I'm not sure if it's a snow gum, cause I didn't see any flowers on it, but Brittle Gum/Scribbly Gum or other, either way it's a fine tree. I heard that the California scribblies don't get writings on thems (don't know if it's true or not).

Mostly I thought it was a good picture of my 1200.

Yeah yeah, I know it's an old thread, but I want to reply to a comment in the last post.

The Scribbly Gum gets its scribbles from a parasite that lives just below the surface of the bark & the marks are its tracks as it eats its way along.

Since this parasite is not native to the US & would not have arrived with the seeds, then the tree would be just a 'Gum' I suppose if no scribbles are present.

What you call the 'Brittle Gum' is probably better known here as the 'Snappy Gum' So named for it's propensity to have branches 'snap' off without warning, even on calm days. There have been too many deaths recorded as a result of these branches falling on people over the years, so whatever you do, do not ever let one grow near to your house.

I added the 'L' since you had left it out in the picture heading & you had mentioned the 'R' in an earlier post.

In the daintree national park in northern queensland there are a species of trees that when the outer fresh bark is breached by axe, often a lethal dose of arsenic fumes is released which supposedly caused a few deaths in the old convict days when they tried to use them for building.
So we have 2 known killer trees in Australia - Gotta love all the killer natural stuff here

OK David, you got me sucked in,... what's the "R" in B110R stand for? I'm sure it isn't "Race"

Nissan uses the "R" suffix for 2-dr sedan. See the tech section article on body styles.

In Japan the 2-dr sedan is sometimes called the "GT R" which I'm sure is partly humor.

If you could look at it closer it may be a scribbly gum.
