That's not an A12 engine .... it's a newer one.

A12s have the distributor under the number one spark plug ... all the others have it under no. three plug. Is this an A12A?

should it say A12A on the engine? cause all it says is A12 on the block.

my ute is a 1980 so this is a newish A12

1980 is the time the A12A was made (79-81 or so).

Were regular A12s sold in Australia 1974-and up? They weren't sold in the US.

well i am guesiing they must have? if it was a A12A would it say that on the block ?

Well, if the block is marked A12 it must be so.

Datsun A12A EngineTech section article:
Bore: 75mm
Stroke: 70mm
Block Hieght: 189.1mm
Displacement: 1237cc

Datsun A12A EngineTech section article:

Bore: 73mm
Stroke: 70mm
Block Hieght: 189.1mm
Displacement: 1172cc

This must mean that the camshaft for the 71-73 A12 and that for the 74-75 A12 are different.
