Here it is in current trim. 2000 kms on the clock so far with only fuel pump issues that have since been remedied. Filters are for webers that I modified. When I find some suitable trumpets I'll put 'em on with sock filters. |

Re: Filters Ive got trumpets and Ive had socks, stay away from them they restrict air-flow and the foam brakes down and gets sucked into your carbs. I switched to a pipercross single (see my pics) and it breaths much better and has none of the previous problems and im still running the trumpets for the good airflow.

Re: Filters Doesn't look like I'll be going to the states any time soon but no, it's not old enough.
The carbs are Mikuni 45mm MSR and yes they're the same that were in the earlier pics. MSR's are very similar to HSR's which are marketed for Harley Davidson motorcylcles.
Other mods: A14 bored to 1510cc via 79mm Tomei pistons polished rods 38mm IN 32mm EX valves with nice port job 78 degree cam Nismo head gasket Fujitsubo header jet hot coated 2" stainless exhaust with single N1 muffler Tomei intake manifold 5kg flywheel with Nismo clutch MSD coil, ignition Accel wires Electronic dizzy Mitsuba fuel pump

Re: Filters Yeah looks really good, I still haven't seen you bombing around Kadena yet though. I've been down there a couple days the last few weeks, but luckily my bro has been in town so we usually hang out and check out his friends at some of the garages with SR20/180SX stuff. We'll hook up one of these times. The car scene down there seems a lot more alive than up here on mainland, but I guess I still need to get involved with the right people up here to get hooked into the real car scene. I almost got to race a late model modded turbo Supra the other night in my 180SX...he probably would've killed me, but some of the Japanese drivers are not that good so you never know!
As far as the filters go, I prefer K&N's over anything, but since you want to run the trumpets, the foam socks are probably the easiest/cheapest way. I never ran trumpets on my carbs but I've heard they do make a nice difference. If that's the case and it does give more noticeable power, I would definitely go that route. Perhaps you can eventually build a setup that incorporates the trumpets inside of K&N filters, just have to get creative, have the extra cash laying around, and have the motivation to do it. I've seen a few different filter setups for Weber DCOE's that incorporate a trumpet inside a K&N filter....kinda like the HKS Power Flow intakes for the 180SX. Of course switching to different or no filters on 4 cylinder cars has never shown me much power gain in the first place, so I usually don't care. On my 455 cubic inch V-8 though running no air filter dropped nearly 2/10ths in the quarter mile!
Oh yeah by the way there's a junkyard down there in Okinawa right near my brother's house that has a pretty intact Sunny Truck in it you could get parts off of. Let me know if you're interested I'll have my bro tell you where it's at! See ya!

Re: Filters Damn, just saw this post for the first time where was the junkyard at? I've only seen 3 or 4 and they've all been raped for the most part although I did pick up a OD 5 speed out of a 310 for cheap.

Re: Filters I'l go with the others. VERY nice engine bay [& engine] Like 1200RC & Dattodevil, i think you should leave the foam filters alone. Your paper ones look & work much better. The greater surface area of the filters will also ensure a longer service life.
What has been the response of the other blokes on trhe base?

Re: Filters Oiled filters should be avoided with big turbo applications. Use the big surface area paper ones, and replace them regularly. Like those sold by unifilter. I've also heard this from "authentic" GTR owners...not those people who are only looking after the car keys, until they write the car off.
If you don't believe me?..do your own tests on a dyno.
This advice also comes from my race engine builder.
Chris.
ps. The enginebay is looking great.

Re: Filters First thanks for all the comments. Only reason for the foam socks will be 'cause I want to run trumpets. Truck won't see even a dirt road so they should be okay.
The coil's and MSD Blaster SS controlled by a MSD 6AL in the cabin.
Most other people on the base don't know what they're looking at. Most people are here for such a short time that even if they're into cars they don't dabble with them here. Everyone thinks it's pretty cool though.
Haven't hit the dyno yet but will after some more tuning (haven't had time). Haven't settle on a main jet size yet.

Re: Filters those foam socks are crappy as
they dont stop anything getting in your motor, i pulled mine off and the entire carb was full of crap
that said, they also seem to get very dirty very fast
go paper filters, much more practical

Re: Filters Quote: those foam socks are crappy as Remember though, that its not the foam that does the filtering. Its the special filter oil they should have in them and applied to them regularly that keeps the nasties out They are actually much better than paper filters when properly maintained By the way 2332 it looks REAL GOOD! Great attention to detail Love it.

 Re: Filters yeah yeah
but even oiled and all that they dont stop nothing going nowhere
it's more crucial on a rally car (driving in others dust etc), but from my rally experience with them i now know they arnt worth a pinch of shiet

Re: Filters I agree, with rallycar, the "paper" ones are more effective at trapping dust than socks, but they both need to be maintained to be effective.

Re: Filters cool engine bay. So what about filters? If Dattodevil says the K&Ns don't fit side by side, what's really available? In NZ there doesn't seem to be much apart from foam things, Unifilter, Pipercross, Ramflo etc... I need some filters for mine ASAP, was thinking of getting an alloy box folded up with a pod, sucking cold air... but if there are some good paper ones around that will fit I'd probably go with them.

Re: Filters With that I meant the one I had bought didn't fit side by side, was the 56-1340, which is for the single side draught. I have now bought 56-1310 X2 which is for the twin carbs. these are shorter in length and height. For the taller twin carb one, use 56-1320 X2.
