Re: Sunny Engine Bay Adapting a weber manifold good work. What brakes run you run to need a booster ?

Re: Sunny Engine Bay looks good Lemonhead.
It also sounds and goes great! I was doing the roadblock at the spectator point on Moonscape stage yesterday. I would have said hi, but we arrived late - just in time to sign on and get out to the roadblock. Then we left straight after the event finished - which was a little later than we expected. I'll catch up with you next time.
Certainly looked like you were going well too - you arrived at that hairpin faster than alot of the bigger capacity cars, and threw it around there nicely too.
A mate (Marc) was taking some pics around that area too - I'll post a link to them when he's got them up on the net.

Re: Sunny Engine Bay Thanks Harry. It would have been nice to catch up and say hi.
Extremely happy with how the car ran yesterday, engine has got PLENTY of very usable power, brakes and suspension are good but the best part of all now is th close ratio gearbox, were it use to bog down with some gear changes it now just literally pulls away with every gear change.
As for that spectator point...........You would have observed by now I have (and always have had) a problem with the combination of spectators, hair pin corners and cameras, the combo just doesn"t work for me, on the third run I pretty well just drove the car around the corner, nothing fancy.
Are you going up to the QRC at Benarkin?
killer1200: booster comes standard with the car
LAGWAGON:Set up is just a standard Aseries weber manifold and EFI Hardware throttle bodies(shelf item) I am doing the research now to see what the gains are of moving the injector onto the manifold pointed towards the valves, this set up that I have definately works though.

Re: Sunny Engine Bay looks very nice! i'm quite interested in the injector placement tho... is this a self made injection manifold? i've been toying around with a-injection, buying a webber manifold and adapting a CA plenum, throttle and injectors in. tell us more about the setup. i though the deal was fire the fuel straight down at the valves?

Re: Sunny Engine Bay hi, was just wondering approx how much the efi setup cost, with computer, quad throttles, injectors, fuel pump ect. What computer are you running? cause i was thinking of doing somthing similar to my 1200 rally car but think the cost will be too much right now.
cheers Michael

Re: Sunny Engine Bay well, the first 2 runs at that hairpin looked pretty good to me!
RE injector placement, I've seen some quatitive testing of injector placement, and the effect on power primarily, and economy and emmisions as secondary considerations. Testing was done on a aspirated 6cyl Falcon engine with 6 throttle bodies. It showed that injector placements further away from the valves can net measurable and repeatable bhp gains. The theory is that the wetting of the manifold walls aids in cooling the inlet charge. It does have adverse effects on emissions though, which explains why manufacturers place injectors as close as possible to the back of the valve.
Anecdotally, Steve Newings awesome Stanza Sport Sedan (240bhp CA18) has the injectors mounted out in the plenum/air box - yep outside the bellmouths for the throttle bodies!

Re: Sunny Engine Bay Lemonhead - good to hear that you now have a close ratio gearbox. That would have to be one of the best things you can do to 1200 rally cars to make them get up and go in all gears. I run a close ratio option 1 box with straight cut gearset fitted and it transformed the car once fitted and sorted. You will never go back to stock ratios.
L18_B110 I also read that article on injector placement with interest. Good little article. I have also seen a comparison between injectors at the bellmouths compared to outside the bellmouths and almost always the power gains are up as you move away from the bellmouths, again the theory of wetting down the walls applies. If I remember correctly once the injectors were moved 50mm away from the bellmouths the power on this particular engine started to drop away. I have always wanted to mount my injectors inside the airbox but never find the time. One day it is going to happen and it will stay on the list of things to do until then.
