I can't explain it, but for some reason this little section was rusted out & full of bog.
As you can see I cut the hole & then took my grinder & 1.5mm cutting wheel to the wreckers & got exactly the profile I needed.
Then it was just a matter of welding back in.

Coops - is there nobody in Aus that imports the body panels for 1200's. Here in south africa, I just went to the dealer and purchased a front valance (as they call it), cost me equivalent of about 60 Aus Dollars!! A roof costs about the same. Obviously all the panels are still available here because the vehicle is still a production item (I own 2 of em). Would it not be a good business opportunity to send container loads of the stuff to Aus - mmmmm - ponder, ponder.

Bones - I reckon that would be a win / win situation if you could swing it.

We can get SOME aftermarket panels in Oz at the moment, but they're pretty poor quality & they mostly cater for the utes as spare panels for coupes / sedans seem pretty rare.

You can also get hold of SOME genuine panels, but they're as dear as poison.

If you set up an import business for genuine replacement panels, I reckon between Ozdat & datsun1200.com alone you'd have plenty of business.

Fella's - Why don't you show Bones if you're interested.

Hey Simmo.... I hate to burst your bubble, but check the date on that last post.
Around a year ago.

Haven't heard a peep out of him since.

Sorry

Yeah I did.......
It was worth it though 'coz after nearly 2 years of hard labour, metres of sheet metal, new panels, paint & about 2 litres of rust proofing product now it looks like this: -

Guess who's a happy camper ?

Sweet. Gotta love it when your blood sweat and tears actually lead to something in the end!
