well fellas, it fits! just for an early test fit i lowered my CA from my old 1200 wagon into the engine bay of the spare 1000 i bought for just such an occasion.

granted it is resting the sump on the crossmember, but all manifold and the turbo are still bolted on and the crossmember is unmodified as in the engine mounts are still on.

The bonnet closes and i can slide my fingers in between the cam gear cover (the highest bit) and the bonnet. the motor can go back a little further which will make it a little lower.

interesting hey... not that it'll be easy. but it will run elevens with ease :)

Looks like all the suspension worries were for nothing.
So how long till you get started on cutting up the rear of the other one?

yeah thats my 1600 on ebay... sad times

this is just a practice shell, for fitting purposes my actual 1000 two door is in much better condition.

phunk i am building up the courage to tub the rear as we speak. I am thinking of tubbing it and then just moving the diff mounts on the spare diff i have in and then getting the diff made to suit. I'm not really sure how best to do it so it will not be off the road too long. whatya reckon?

I'll definately cut up the blue for practice. That i'm not fussed about, keeping another possible daily off the road for a long time (i tend to do that a fair bit) would not be good.

anyhoo to keep the saga rolling, i thought i'd test out fitting my cooler from my 1600. it will slot in near perfectly behind the grille and under the radiator support only intruding into the engine bay by about an inch. space is at a premium around that area!!!
