This is going under my SR20DET powered Sunny.
I opted for this diff because it has the same stud pattern and I need the disk brake rear for engineering the car.

nice diff!

has your engineer requested a disc brake rear end? or do you feel you neeed rear discs to gain enough stopping power for the engineering tests?

 Re: R31 Skyline Diff
The engineer told me that I needed the equivelant brake setup that the 180SX had, which means four wheel disks. There are probably ways around using drums on the back, but I guessed that having a nice solid diff with disk brakes couldn't be a bad thing.
Plus I had the Skyline one made slightly shorter than the standard Sunny one so the mags I have would fit under the guards nicely, and they do.

I don't think it is something that could be done at home, but I got mine done by Aussie Diffs at Currumbin, and they took all the mounting brackets off the old difff and made up a jig to weld them onto the Skyline one, thats because the sunny has a four link setup, if you were to do it to a 1200 it would just need to be shortened I would think?? But I'm not fluent with leaf spring setups

For me it was as easy as taking the old diff out and taking it to the diff shop with the trailing arms and then putting the new one back in, simple.

1st you need to find someone to shorten it for you..... Should be about $500.
Grinding all the brackets etc. off 1st will go a long way towards making this as cheap as possible + you don't need them.
You shorten the long tube to suit the short axle & shorten & re-spline the long axle to suit the short tube.

Then you're up roughly another $600 to get the diff reconditioned (providing it needs it), however I'd recommend sourcing an LSD centre from an EA/EB Falcon & rebuilding with that.

Then come the mounts.......
I used 50 x 75 RHS to incoorperate some lowering.
You weld these together & machine a 71mm hole through the midde, then drill the locating hole.
Have to close the ends off too (DOT rules).
You don't weld the diff to these until you've got your pinion angle set..... Last thing!

The tricky bit is sorting the handbrake.......
You need to grab all the cables etc from the R31 skyline when you get the diff.
Then you need to get the pass. side cable lengthened & fabricate a bracket to sit on the drivers side of the diff housing.
You'll also need to shorten the brake piping & re-flare as a ball flare to suit the datsun 'T' piece.

I think that just about covers it..... As you can see it's a bit of stuffing around.
