Re: I blew this up Wally, how bad was the plenum blown up?
D, it should work fine with either type since, technically, a turbocharger IS a supercharger. It just gets its drive from the exhaust rather than the crank.

Re: I blew this up What he means by blow off valve, is a purge (or overboost) valve. This is used in the event of a carby backfire or sudden increase of excessive boost(like a disconnected actuator hose). Similar to a blow off valve in design, usually vents externally. Is anyone familar with Jake Edwards' big single turbo yellow LH torana? As this features one directly on top of the plenum and is clearly visible. Backfires whether caused by leaning out or nitrous use have been know to split plenums like wallys, intercooler tanks and piping.

Re: I blew this up Even the V8 671 style blowers have an over boost valve it is usually a spring loaded cap/s in the blower manifold. While in a friends supercharged Torana a couple of weeks back he had a carb backfire and the blower stopped spinning so quick it snapped the end of the forged steel crank !! Pro Stock and Funny Car drag cars have sheet metal blow off plates in their manifolds to stop blowers flying off in backfire situations.

Re: I blew this up yes, that's what i meant,an overboost blow off.all the supercharged open wheelers running the nsw hillclimb championships have them fitted, due to the needed to back off for corners.i know they aren't 'look at me,i've got a turbo' valves, but just a pressure relief valve to prevent damage to blowers & mainfolds.

Re: I blew this up sorry,i used the wrong term to describe it,a valve or a burst panel was what i meant.all the supercharged hillclimb cars in the nsw hillclimb championship have these,as they all run billet superchargers,& manifolds.they don't want to break one of these,so they have valves to dump pressure.not one wants to be like john force.

Re: I blew this up I sit corrected. I had forgotten about the safety valves. They do however blow an air/fuel mixture out when the go off. I guess a small quickly extinguished engine bay fire is still cheaper than sending a Rootes type blower several hundred feet into the air!

Re: I blew this up ive got an L20 with twin 40 mm webbers aet up as blow through. on deaccaleration it used to hit 30 psi so i put a blow off valve on. it then blew off the blow off valve. i had to fit a switch on the accelerator peddle thas turned off the supercharger on deacceleration.

Re: I blew this up Yikes! You would NOT want a blowoff valve on a draw through system like this! That would vent air/fuel mixture into the engine bay!
As an aside, too bad about blowing that up, it is farking gorgeous!

Re: I blew this up This S/S plenium didnot work on the Wally Wagon I had a back fire and because of the amount of fuel sitting inside it split open. The steam pipe one works better anyway. See Content management for full article on the Wally Wagon
