 Re: CA18 engine parts
I finally completed the head rebuild on the weekend It is very time consuming.
I plan on having the bottom end completed this weekend in and running the next and ready for dyno tune in 2 weeks

those cams are huge..
what lifters are u using??

once u get it going, take it down to price farm machinery and leave them a good set of blackies..

it would be even better if u smoked my cousins michael and david.. They have no appreciation for datsun power.. die V8's die..

hi Andrew,

how come you have new adjustable pulleys, what's a stock cam 248 deg 8.5mm lift? (is that the CA16 i'm thinking of?) go the CA, should be able to run 25psi, what hp/kw r you hoping for, r u still using the existing forgies?

Good work Andrew...The GTRS should make it all loads of fun.

I'm running 270/8.8 at the moment (hydraulic lifters)...but just an hour ago I ordered some 270/9.25 procams. I already have some very expensive solid lifters I got 6 months ago. Damn Tomei ones are half the price, but were unavailable when I was looking.

So we should all be 'honking along' for the nats with any luck.

do u have clearance issues with this lift,do u have to grind the head around the bucket area? what turbo are r u running/ rear AR would determine your power range? 230kw at wheels would be an animal to drive. new forgies in this one?

Put a list Andy of all the gear going into the new block and motor parts .. I know alot of them but not all and all the stuff you have done ... 230rwkw will be one of the tuffest CA 1200s for trackon going round.

 Re: CA18 engine parts
The 270/9.25 are on a smaller base circle, and need to use solid lifters and shims to set clearance. There would be a 1-2mm gap if I tried to use hydraulic lifters with these cams.
I already installed heavy duty JUN valve springs and retainers. My engine is badly needing another tune, after all of these mods, to unleash the beast. Currently running a GT25/0.63 rear, but I also have 0.86 in stock (replaced it because of too much lag).

Short-coupe im running a HKS GTRS its runs a 0.64 AR quite a few Sr's are making 240 odd rwk from this turbo I should be able to make simaller figures with a bit more boost and revs. Especially with the superior design & strength of the ca18
B120 its simaller to my old engine A new block with new thick wall sleeves still using the same nitrided balanced crank just better Arp 2000 bolts holding it together Argo rods and new forgies I also pissed off the orings and copper headgasket in favour of the MLS gaskets with the Arp stud kit should be able to run 25+ psi if I need to.
Chris I cant wait to get the datto down to phillip island Im talking the wife into coming down too and make a bit of a family week away.

Cheers Andrew

Great Idea. I'm sure she and the kids will have fun.

The kids will love it just for the penguins...It's the purple elephants that I'll see that I'm worried about.

 Re: CA18 engine parts
The turbo I have is the same is the Garrett GT2871R but with a 52Trim wheel. Supposed to have really good flow but also excellent response.
I didnt have a bottom end failure but since fitting cams ect I wanted a bit more bottom end strength the stock race preped rods are good for around the 400hp mark as long as revs are kept under 8000. After spending a lot of money on the rest of my engine reliabilty is my main priority. I havnt blown an engine yet and want to keep it that way.
I now have the block upside down on assembly table with the crank in and torqued up clearences are perfect a few more hours this arvo and all day tomorrow should see it nearly completed ill take some more pics.
cheers Andrew

The cams are not that much bigger than stock (248deg with 8.5 lift) they still use hyd liftersl. Im not going for huge top end we plan on dialing in as much midrange and bottom end as possible with the cam gears but still get around the 230rwkw. I traded the old cams and pullies setup to the engine machinist. They will be going into his daughters drift ca18 1200 ute
