Re: My R31 LSD Conversion be warned ! vl commodore turbo and skyline lsd are different to vn commodore lsd in that the offset where the crown wheel bolts on varies this kinda means you are stuck with a tall ratio if u use the vn type hemisphere (3.08) where as the vl turbs(3.45) ans skyline(3.69) are better suited,

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion interesting, so why did someone with a commodore buy the gears from my skyline diff? yes IRS commodore and falcon diff centres fit, and i can probably get a 28 spline LSD for $100, buts its for me

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion VL Turbo is 3.9. LSD 28 spline. VL 6 cylinder is 3.45 non-LSD 25 spline.
Both VL Turbo and Skyline Sillouette Diffs are the best choices for Datsun conversion diffs.

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion talking to my commodore friend the gears work for commodore people, as they are all the same offest apperantly just we cant use the centres out of commodores so it must be the housing is different offset too

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion mate of mine had the same problem with his r31. he bought a comodore lsd, but apparently you can make it fit if you get some shims made.

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion talked to commodore mate
he is running a vn LSD centre in a VL diff with VL gears, 3.45
all centres for VL V8 and VL turbo till VS(including IRS) are the same diff centre all gears area also interchangable from R31/VL so VS commodore
so unless its only the skylne diff thats different i dont see why it wont work even if it is only a matter of shimming the centre, which any diff shop should be able to do

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion the R31 silhouhette (spelling) had the LSD standard i think. and the stud pattern is still 114.3 same as datsun, rather than the 5 stud commodore/falcon diffs

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion centres are the same though its easier to find a smashed falcon or commo than it is to find a skyline lsd is it true you only have to shorten one axel, if so i might just have to shorten my r31 diff

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion I think: r31 28spline commo/falcon 25spline falco/commo v8 28spline
so why did skylines have 28spline when 25 was enough for the heavier, more powerful holden/ford sixes?

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion Re: Spline count
Falcons ran 25spline up until EB series 2 then went 28.
Commos seem to only be 28 in the V8's + VL turbo.
Yes, I am looking for a 28spline LSD. If you see one for $100 or less, let me know.
There are 2 different length axles in the diff. Shorten the housing, swap the short to the previous long side and cut/re-spline the long one for the new short side. (I just confused myself)
Saves mod'ing 1 axle. Of course doesn't work in all setups.
Open to other sources of 28spline LSD centres.
Do the IRS commo's run a borgW centre?

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion For 28 spline centres try Vn onwards they are all 28. So too are you xr8 and xr6 type axels and later ford centres. Pretty sure independant have same centre. Dont think all skyline diffs were 28 spline, only silhouette and the later model version as the BTR78 diff was only produced from 87/88.

Re: My R31 LSD Conversion R31 had 28 splines, VN V8 had 28 splines, pintara 25 splines (but you can use the crown and pinion) stocko R31 open, silhouette & VN V8 had 4 pinion LSD, i had to put my calipers on the front side, it's alot easier with the handbrake cables, on a 1200, handbrake cables go backwards which make life easier
