Re: A mates car The rim diameter doesn't really matter, it's the combination of the height and width of the tire, and offset of the wheel. A 15 x 165 low-profile tire won't rub either. Of course the stock 12" wheels are designed to fit without rubbing.
If you are having trouble rubbing after "rolling" the lip of the fender/guard, use a narrower tire, or examine the offset (would your tire fit better if moved to the left or right? If so, you need a different wheel offset).
