4 link rear end

This is the rear of my long term racecar project. The radius rods are hi tensile aluminium. Everything in the car I fabricated myself including the coilovers and the stainless exhaust. The rear crossmember has a bulkhead and all of this is visible thru the rear window. |

Re: 4 link rear end Just noticed this pic, and I realise it is fairly old but how did the rear end go?
Just from what I can see it looks as though it would bind as it went through its range of motion.
Usually with a 4-bar system like you have pictured you don't need / want a torque link, alternatively when running a torque link the radius rods are usually mounting to a freely rotating 'bird-cage' on the diff.

Re: 4 link rear end It works fine...the bottom A arm has a sliding bar inside a delrin bushed tube so there is no bind and the A arm only controls the sideways movement..good spotting though. I have used this style of A arm set up on many rear ends and it has been very successful.

Re: 4 link rear end Do you think you could post a shot of the 'A-arm' attachment to the bottom of the diff?
Is there any particular reason you didn't go for a panhard rod instead? And, do you have any roll centre control with the setup you have?

Re: 4 link rear end There is no roll centre adjustment as such. The centre off the rod end under the diff is the true roll centre. The design of the rollcage determined the rear end set up and there is nothing to mount a panhard rod to anyway. I got this idea from crawling under a Roush Mustang Trans Am car probably 15yrs ago, it was simple and light which was the design brief when I was building the car.
