 Re: lightened flywheel
I guess that I don't know how to make the photos show up here but these are the pics of my lightened 1200 flywheel. Used it in my SCCA car for 6 or 7 seasons. Turned 8500 RPM pretty regularly so it seemed pretty reliable. Weighs 10.8 lbs. (Thanks Dodgeman)

What was the donor for your flywheel. A14? These, & A15 flywheels are quite heavy to begin with, so puting one on a diet is a really good idea.

I just recovered my own cut down flywheel from the back of my 1200GX engine before I traded it away, & I used an A10 donor flywheel to start with. We just trimmed a little off it, as they are the lightest of the A series flywheels to begin with.
What's it weigh? It's been well over 20 years & I forget, but will try to find out soon. [EDIT] It's 6 Kg

You can see the extra half dozen M6 holes that held the original little pressure plate on.
We machined the front face down to the bottom of the groove that defined the diameter of the A10's smaller clutch plate.

Then we machined the back just to make it nice & smooth. The A10 flywheel is not hollow in the back like the others, so it's probably not as light as one might at first think.

I don't know if this is what you would call 'street weight' but it served me well for many years & as long as it is still serviceable, I will probably use it behind my A13, right after I replace the worn ring gear.

not completly sure on the exact weight
i think i read somewhere that he (jts) takes them to 6.something (does that sound right)
it was just a stock a14 flywheel to begin with

 Re: lightened flywheel
I just weighed my flywheel on the bathroom scale, so accuracy is not guaranteed, but at least it came up with the same 13 lbs [5.9 Kg] on each of the five times I placed it there, so if not totally accurate, at least it is consistant. I'll call it 6 Kg just to round it off.

A point to note, using the ring gear as a reference, is the position of the flywheel face in relation to it. The machined A10 flywheel places the clutch closer to the block than the A14 one does.

This worked to my advantage without my knowing it. When I installed the five speed, the clutch arm was located further forward that it would otherwise be, & it cleared my unmodified 1000 sedan firewall when it would not have if I had used any other flywheel. Talk about the luck of the Irish.

The A14 flywheel 'looks' thick & heavy, but I am pretty sure that they are hollow in the back which of course cuts the weight dramaticly.

Datsun stuff, even A10 stuff, is never 'useless'
