 Re: 710 rear
I read that the reason Australia did not get the Datsun 710 ( aka 140J, 160J, 160U,160JSSS ,1500) is that Australia was manufacturing the 180B at that time, and the 710 would had been direct competition to the 180B, vehicle which was being assembled and sold in Australia as said before.

I wish it would had been sold in Australia too....there would be a lot more performance literature and proven mods on this car.....in the US there are practically extinct, vanished, except for the very rare one around....and there is no information on it performancewise except from what can be extrapolated from 510 performance modification stuff that can be applied enginewise.

The SSS had IRS suspension very much like the 180B. Asian countries got the SSS version. The US 710 was the leaf sprung one.

This is probably the only case where I see Australia did not get a Datsun that the US got. Usualy it is the other way around.

I will buzz in for NZ again. We got several varations of the 710 including the SSS(The only hardtop model to be released in NZ). Paul (Bullitt on NZ datsun) has a beautiful car which can be seen here...

Does anyone know about the two door sedan variation I have heard about, or better yet pictures?

 Re: 710 rear
This Datto was sold in the US the datsun 710. it came first with a L18 motor. Later on it had the L20B.

In other countries it was sold as the 140J (L14) , 160J (L16) , 160JSSS (L16) and 160U.(L20B).

It seems similar to a 610 if not familiar with the car. Actually these cars are very much different. If you were to see them side by side, the difference would be writ.

That NZ 710 owned by Paul "Bullit" looks awesome. That grille is my favorite too. The US got shortchanged once again ( most US Dattos got the ugly touch.....could it be Japan's revenge?? )....in the grille dept, as well as in the IRS suspension.
(As said before the 160J SSS had IRS suspension, never available on american sold 710's.)
