Re: another one on top If these things actually produced any benefit whatsoever, then the factory would have turned them out by the tens of millions, at about 2.3 cents each, & made all sorts of claims of wondrous new advances in technology, & told us just how much more power & economy we would get. They could have easily added $1 to the price of the car & made a profit as well.
They didn't, so you get to figure out why. It isn't too hard.

Re: another one on top I should of said 'about 17' could be more, could be less I measure in a number of ways first theres a voltage output stock 14.4v but when I installed it whent up 2 16.2v+ so if you do the adding it comes to about 17 because 90HP can do about 16.8v+

Re: another one on top It looks like we have been geting ripped off for years. Racers have been paying out big bucks for dyno work when all they needed was a cheap volt meter instead.
What a money saver.

Re: another one on top so your saying the faster your engine can turn the alternator the more power it is making? Cool theory but I think I speak for all of us by saying that theres only two ways of measuring power increasements 1) Dyno run 2) quarter mile time The alternator only makes voltage by turning, the faster it turns the more voltage it puts out regulated by a regulator internal or external which ever kind of alternator you have. If I installed competition valve springs on a stock A12 and left the carb cam and head alone I could safely rev it to 7000rpm+ until the carb reached it's flow limit, and the alternator would be spinning a hell of a alot more but the car wouldn't be making stuff all power increase if any, it would probably peak out at 5000rpm and fall from there due to the little carbie, exhaust, points ignition etc but just for interest and curiosity try timing a 0-100kmph run with the thingy installed and without the thingy installed

Re: another one on top yes the 'Dyno run' and '1/4 mile' r more accurate.
4 people who r not believing this send it to 'myth busters' and let them put the skill to the test.

Re: another one on top I wouldn't do that pepper, I'd do what I have done: 650 Cold cranking amp Truck (NOT A PICKUP - Osh Kosh) battery, mind you, I think 650 CCA might have a detrimental effect on starter motors.. thankfully I have heaps of spares... Dad reckons when I crank my 120Y over he can hear it from the house which is 150-200 feet away I have been given a Stanza and (another) two Sunnys... PLAN: put the Stanza undercarriage under one of the Sunny's! oh and Burkey I also reccomended the hotdog because while an A12 with open exhaust sounds cool, after thrashing around for a 3 days with an open system I HAD to put it back on... as it drove dad nuts... and I'm sure the neighbours too!... I imagine an L series sounds at least a little better....

Re: another one on top I't's like the Hiclone thing you see on tv but never buy cos it's easier and cheaper to make one. The logic behind it makes enough sense to me but I think the design would have to be tweaked with every other mod done to the engine so as to not to become detremental to the airflow. It's like fans, they have a "sweet spot" at which they work the best not creating exsessive turbulance and sh*t. What people have been paying more attention to in recent years is how smooth people are making inlet manifolds when they mod them. The petrol does tend to stick to the walls more and isn't getting mixed with the air which also isn't getting ruffled like it should. That's just me sounding like an engineer, which I'm not though and once you go putting turbo through it it doesn't really matter to most people

Re: another one on top I haven't, but my sister an brother in law did, on a '84 F100 5.8 (351) 4WD... from perth to kalgoorlie cost $150 in fuel, they had it tuned up while they were there, and on the way back $100 fuel bill!
if your trying to tune it up here's an easier way... lengthen the exhaust and put a hotdog on it as I'm sure FESA wouldn't be happy if you started a fire...
