Thermo fan fitted infront of radiator because there is not enough space between 3 core radiator and engine.

No the gx heads wont have this casting in them,as this is an emissions fitting, having to do with stopping the vaccum advance before the motor gets to a certain temperature. So that makes it the perfect place to put a thermo fan switch, if you have this casting. I've put temp senders here for aftermarket temp guages in a couple of motors, where i wanted to keep the factory guage too.the threads should even be the right size & pitch,with any sort of luck.

PS Im a bit disappointed that i didn't get a response from Nissanwithballs, maybe he was tired & took my advice.

I do drive a 2006 1400 Nissan Champ, its the same thing.
As for the subaru, I will be driving one before december, I can afford it.

The Pulsar has the same 1400 engine as my bakkie, its only mounted sideways (FWD).

Oh Sugar!!, I didn't put the little smily thing in to show i was being humourous. Serious bit - it'd be better to run the sender either in the upper hose or in the radiator,as putting the sender in the lower (output) hose, it won't see the real temperature of the engine, & won't come on fast enough. As for the brackets, now you have the centre to centre distances, you can remake the brackets prettier (smiley thing to show i'm being humourous(again)).

As for you Nissanwithballs, you've had a big day being rude to all the other boys, so it's into you PJ's & off to bed, it's a school night you know.

Don't worry b310gx. No prob.

You are having me confused now as I have the ideal place for the sender to be put at the bottom hose. The radiator is currently removed, but if I put it underneath in the radiator, won't it be just the same as putting it into the bottom hose?
I don't want to put it at the top as the water level normally fluctuate and can cause the sender not to be in the radiator fluid to acurately read it.

What needs to be done to the head to fit it? Because it is a GX cylinder head, I don't want to drill or tap or something similar to the head. Please can you explain where the place is to fit it so that I can check tonight if mine will work.

Sorry about the crap photo, this is the engine in the sedan I bought recently, you can just see the two wires coming out of the switch, they have been cut as the switch isnt used, im trying to find a better photo at the moment

Put it into the bottom hose, you're right about the temp fluctuation in the top tank. The steam might even be hot enough to keep the thermo running permanently, even before all the water is at operating temperature. So you might start cooling the water before it needs cooling.

Thanks kulula.
But I am now going to make a adapter pipe out of stainless steel and install that into the top hose with the sensor screwed into it. I think it would then pick up the water that exits the engine and not in the radiator where low waterlevel or steam can affect the reading. Also because I want it in the top hose is because it would get a more accurate reading of the water temp that is coming out of the engine.

I was told by a electro mach, that the fan switch from a 2.5 or 2.6 VW Combi would work perfectly in my bakkie, as the engine run at the same tempreture.

I think I got the right one.
It is a thermo switch for a 1400 Nissan Pulsar. It kicks on at 86 C and switches off again at 81 C.
What do you guys think?

I have got my fan running off a relay connected to the ignition. Works pretty well, except the fan does seem to be a bit noisey if the engine is not running. I did also feel a bit more power on pullaway after the fixed fan was removed.
Did anybody experiance the same.

Yes we did. There is still a couple of 280ZX's running around. Do you think this is a better option with regard to thermo switch?

it'll run a bit warm without the radiator. i reckon the pug switch sounds good, see if you can mount it in the radiator itself, by getting a radiator shop to solder in a lug. Don't know if you should put it through the ignition switch or just off the battery, i'd try the ignition circuit myself. as you can see through the fan to the engine, i'd say there was plenty of flow through the fan for when it's not turning.

I am not finished yet. I am going to make a T piece that will be put between the bottom pipe coming from the radiator and then going to the engine. Here the switch will be installed. The problem is just finding the ideal one. Might look for a VW one that will switch on at 85 C as kulula said.

Why did you have to make brackets for the fan.
I got mine in buy drilling only 4 holes and bolting it in.

Remember, mine is a 1977 1200 GX.
It is a little different to the 1400 bakkies.
I did alot of fitting and testing to see what will work and unfortunately this was the only way. I wish though that I could also just drill holes and bolt it. It would have made live so much easier. Damn long story to bend those brackets.

The brackets are ugly, I know.
Luckily they will be painted black and hidden behind the grill.
What thermo switch would you reccomend for a datto engine?
I am looking at a VW one that activates at 95 degrees celcius. Is this not too high?
Although the Nissan one's I looked at activate at the same temp.

sounds pretty high

should be able to keep the motor below 80 (with thermostat that opens at low 70s)

buy an adjustable switch and set it up to what ever you please

That would be a excellent idea. Will phone around and find out. Currently I have the lowest temp thermostat installed. Otherwise I will need to go manual.

If I look at this pic, it looks like you've already turned the blades around? Or maybe you were lucky enough to find a push type thermo...

Don't the VW switches work at 85-87 degrees? You get different ones, so you should be able to find a lower rated one than 95. I think the one I used was 85.

I phoned a parts supply store and the guy suggested I use a Pegeot thermo switch.
It kicks in at 82 and switches off at 68 degrees celcius. Is this not maybe too low?
Meaning, the fan will constantly kick in.
I PM'ed B120dat and he said that A series engines run optimum at 85 to 87 degrees celcius.

@kulula
I was at Goldwagen and they only had 95 to 100 degrees celcius switches. Where did you get yours? The one you have sounds like a even closer to the actual one I require.

The one I have for my L-series is from a 280zx, it comes on at around 85
