Nice try & it would sure look good, but it's amazing how some black paint can disguise the reality of the pillar.
Pitty, ....
I'm guessing that this is a clay mockup.

Just imagine being there when they were doing this! You could say "make those wheel arches a bit bigger there mate" And "I reckon you should make the tunnel a bit bigger" And tell them "Lets option these things with an FJ20T"
These guys probably had no idea what an incredible masterpeice they were creating.

They were probably thinking "it's pretty good now, but in three years we'll make one even better..."

Would they have been surprised to know that people 37 years later are still driving their design?

Would they have thought it possible that 37 years later people would be walking over their newer offerings looking for these, or trashing perfectly serviceable newer models to use them as parts donors for poor examples of these so as to save them.

Something with class is always in style.

David, do you have another shot of this with a better view of that grille?

I wish! This is the only pic I have, it's from the introduction book.

Interesting looking grille...

It looks to be based on the final non coupe grille with the top & bottom bars, but with a different central element.
From the little we can see, & my fertile imagination, I believe that while this one might be an interesting variation, they still got it right in the production version.
