These recently arrived Sunny 1200 GX mirrors seem to be crying out "fit us fit us".
Oh dear me, dilemma, what to do what to do, use them on a driver, or, ... ?
What would YOU do?

Thanks again Matt, where would I be without you.

Well it's only been about six or seven months, but it feels like much longer.
Yes, the mirrors finally went onto a car, ... the right car.
Check it out, it has all the fruit. GX mirrors, the right plate, the JAF badge, the GX emblem & even the correct Sunny emblem in the centre of the grille.
The Coupe cowl scoops could easily have been a dealer installed option/accessory on this sedan.
Does it get any better than this?

Thanks to Whoridas Girl for the pic. It was a Hollywood epic. I directed, she shot, & this was the star. LOL

I just got my sunny1200 bootlid badge in the post, now I have the complete set of sunny domestic badges and full set of sedan gx badges. Now which set to put on which car??

If you are able to complete the conversion to a GX [engine?, instruments, other, etc.] then go with that, otherwise it might be better to go with the JDM conversion.

The giveaway with the instruments is the speedo which is marked out to 180 kph for the Sunny GX & 160 kph for all others.

Well I have a Sunny Sedan instrument panel only 160kp/h though. JAF badge, sunny boot, sides and grill badge, jdm parkers and SSS bluebird mirrors. I think these parts will go on my safari yellow sedan.

As for GX parts I have GX induction, (missing airbox), boot, pillar badges. Grill badge is still to come. I will put these on my partners sedan as its currently getting a freshen up inside and out with rebuilt A14.

So for the GX I would be chasing a instrument panel, wooden steering wheel (where these on the GX sedans?) centre console, were there even GX autos?

 Re: Reflections on a GX
Sounds like a plan to me.
As far as I can tell there were four of the 'sports' type steering wheels.

The original GX one was made with a simulated artificial imitation wood rim, but I'm sure I have seen them with a black rim too. They were otherwise the same as each other with black spokes & hub [boss]

There was also a sports wheel option for non GX models & these came as either a DeLuxe or Sports version with the only difference being the inclusion of plastic 'pads' in the three spokes for the DeLuxe version.

I believe that the JDM GX sedan had the black GX wheel but can not be sure what the export GX models had.
I do know that NON JDM GX models didn't get the facelift, so did not have the revised tail lights, the bonnet or the grille. I don't believe that they got the facelift dash either.

The facelift changes could not have applied in Australia as the few GX models that were sold here were coupes & were either 1971 or early '72 models which pre-dated the facelift anyway.

Mmmmm, I have an idea. I'll PM you my postal address, you can then mail them airfreight to me. I'll then fit them to my car, take some pics, and if you like what you see, you can immediately go and get yourself another set and fit them. If you don't like the look, then you don't have them around to bother you anymore...

No seriously, I wanted to get a set of chrome/silver ones, but never got around to it. Might still get them in the future, and fit them in place of the black bus sized ones I have now.

Someone said that they wouldn't be of much use. that doesn't matter really, as I only have to worry about anything from the front, not much ever passes me...*hahaha*

The black cup like thing at the bottom of the mirrors, what is that? makes me think they're electric or something, wouldn't that be sweet for a set like that I've got a drivers side 120y one I'd like to use at some point but I'll need to have a spare fender for it if I don't like it

They are spring loaded, so they dont break if you bump them, the black cup holds the spring.

Go on bolt them on the 1200, you know you want too.

Sidedraught has it absolutely right. These mirrors can be bumped & they will deflect without breaking because the mounting is spring loaded, & the spring is inside the plastic cover which protects it all from water, mud & other road muck.

Ahh that wrapping looks familiar, my bluebird SSS ones came with the same stuff, have you seen my diagram I posted for mounting the mirrors Dodgeman? Do a search for 'fender mirror'.

I've never had the pair out of their boxes at the same time, I would be too scared they would try and mate and scratch each other.

Got it, & thanks for the tip.
The illustration depicts the B310 model so I don't know how accurate this for the 1200.

Should these be fitted to a car, or kept & drooled over?

EDIT
The illustration in the link above is actually for a 1200 [B110]

Its just a very bad drawing, its out of a B110 workshop manual from the body section, theres no mistaking that style-line across the door and guard.

As for using them, mmm, I havent decided if I will use mine yet, they were destined for the racecar, I was going to do like a jap style racer but I think thats just a waste really, they are happy in the cupboard for now with all my other hoarded parts.

I suspect you already know what you'll do.

I say: use them. Smile every day as you drive, instead of just when you open the box. Also, it will bring a smile to many observant auto enthusiast who sees them on your 1200.

Just yesterday I noticed an old Japanese guy was staring at the front of my car as I left a store (where the JDM license plate is). I like to think he was recalling the Sunny of his youth, the one he wanted but couldn't afford back in 1970. Or maybe he was just trying to remember his shopping list Anyway it made my day more interesting.

Damn, Dodgeman.
They look so beautiful. I am also planning to put some bullet mirrors on my sedan in the future. Same one's as B120dat.
Unfortunately not good for anything other than show, but these I would think are the genuine usable ones.

Don't B310's have quarter windows? Who'd have guessed that? I was looking at the fender/guard & WhiteSedan addressed that concern in the third post.

Fear not, these babies are to be fitted alright, but theres a surprise in store, & yes Hendrik, these are the genuine Sunny 1200 GX items.

Watch this space.
