Yes, it is a 5-speed (5 forward gears).

Mick runs a similar 63 box for his L series so this is quite an upgrade for the A series!!!!

Yep. Lovely spread of ratios and shifts ok too. The dog leg takes a but of getting used to but becomes intuitive.
If anything having first there is better as I find I only use it to get under way. On tight corners you tend to I. Ever drop back to 2ND any way so 2ND to 3Rd is directly down not up and across

Big boy is quite right. The reason these are so strong is 'cos they are so bloody heavy. Lifting mine in on my own my ass was hanging out so far you could cut washers off it!
