its not an a series either
the starter should be down bottom with clutch up top

yer definately not a series i just popped down to the shed and lined the a series plate that goes between the flywheel and block to the boxs bellhousing and the bellhousing is much larger and the starter motor hole in the wrong spot thanks for that pepper

There's no support for a clutch cable either - so it must by hydraulic clutch.

It's not a CA bellhousing either...they have starter on the top 'driver' side of the bell and the hydraulic clutch lever below the starter - which is sort of like this, but a CA is bigger too

my bad. its L series after looking at my box under the house. in my defence, it does seem to be missing a bolt/dowell hole down the passenger side... but it is L series. Sorry for the confusion.
