              Re: 5 speed Look at the clutch mechanism. Its a hydraulic actuated arm protruding from the right side.
  The only A series boxes with a hydraulic clutch were left drive models & they were on the left side.  The ribbed case would suggest to the unknowing that it's a 56A type 5 speed but the sideways projecting switches are a 60 or 63 series feature & the 56A had only one switch, ... for reverse lights. This one has three. [Fourth gear detect, fifth gear detect & reverse]
  It is definately NOT a Datsun A series gearbox.

              Re: 5 speed if the rear of gearbox is long which it obviously is more than likely its outa a bluebird or sumthen with a l20 as most L16 &L18's that i've seen r short boxes

              Re: 5 speed definately a 5 speed? It has a ribbed bellhousing so wont be a 60 series. 56 series has ribs. look for a number on the side of the box
