 Re: Granny auto 120Y
Is that the original grille that came with the car, or is it the one I got for you in Sydney?
Looks good.

I gave my stock 1200 a thorough service & tune up when I got it including carb overhaul & later, a Pertronix igniter.
It's no tyre smoker but it starts almost instantly, runs well & the auto shifts smooth now that it has good vacuum.

You get accustomed to the performance & for town use it's fine.
I love staging at the lights, left foot on the brake, dial in some power & launch on green,
blowing their unsuspecting doors off across the intersection.
Always good for a laugh.

Thats the one you got for me, that unfortunately doesnt fit with my intercooler.

The auto is no slower than a 4spd, is better to drive etc. 1st gear is a tad high so it launches slow but its still got plenty to keep up with traffic if you want it to. Give me an A-series auto over 4spd anyday.

 Re: Granny auto 120Y
LOL, I really like my auto but it just needs a little more on the freeway, so the eventual plan is A15 [for the extra 1/2" stroke &
the extra torque] & a 4N71B trans [for the overdrive] to replace the original 3N71B
If that doesn't stretch the legs enough, I can fit the 3.7 to 1 diff & a 3.54 to 1 ratio can even be sourced from the US.

Gotta love those auto's for a regular driver.

I'm not so sure now. That was the plan but I'm liking having a standard, reliable car thats good on fuel. I might try and find another shell for the 4a and keep this as a daily.

 Re: Granny auto 120Y
We dropped an A15 into "The Loaner".

Tranformed it. Higly recommend it. Keeps up with traffic no problems. First grear is waaay too tall in the autos.

As good, if not better on the fuel as you don't have to keep the foot mashed all the time.

 Re: Granny auto 120Y
yeah I've got an a15 sitting in the vanette, but its way too much effort and I'm used to the slowness of the a12 now, so it doesnt bother me.

haha why do you think there are no pics of the other side, its a lot worse I'm not too keen to pay people stupid money to spray some new guards for me, so it'll stay that way for a while.

Engine runs sweet its all standard but for some reason the 80yo granny owner had extractors put in... Car has no rust, both front guards have dents but they are rplacable so I'm not too worried. Interior is brown but pretty immaculate. And its dangerously slow

Haha cool. A12 and a slushbox... you poor bastard!

Prob copped extracters coz the original manifold had a crack in it. We've often put cheap headers on cars insted of another manifold.

 Re: Granny auto 120Y
yeh the a12 auto requires some getting used to. Gaps in traffic at intersections that would have been plenty big enough for the other car could now result in me being T-boned Its all good though, I look foreward to not having to fill up every second day and watch for police cars everywhere I go

Nice buy!!! Just needs to be slammed.

Did they make sun visors for them? That would ad to the granny styles.

 Re: Granny auto 120Y
I tried putting my spare chasers on it but they dont fit on 120Y struts. Tyres hit the strut and the studs are too short to use spacers. Also the hole in the middle of the chasers isnt big enough to go over the 120Y hub. The edges of the stock wheels are really really rusty from 29years of dog piss and they stink. I love it though cruising to uni thismorning at 85k in a 100zone, I'm one of those people I've always hated

Yeah Lachie I could get a visor, but they arent cheap and I'd need to get it painted. If I could find one second hand I'd be real keen

 Re: Granny auto 120Y
new look, still need to fix the guards and get the front visor but once I've got that it'll be perfect (would like white vynal roof too but $$$ probably).

It actually sits a fraction higher at the back but I've got some rims in the boot.
