side view showing the mount and the shortness of the stock speedo cable. ive got a bluebird one which is meant to fit. might even replace w/ a speed that goes higher.

 Re: 63a gearbox onto a15 - 2
yeah ive still got to replace that speedo cable with a nissan bluebird one... the stock one when converting from a 56a gearbox wont reach. i may be able to re-run the cable to make it fit ??
the modern exhaust hanging on a wire is fortunantly temporary. the exhaust needs a little bending.

edit:

having trouble finding the right speedo cable, using tomtom gps for speedo at the moment .. i picked up a stanza and had and old bluebird one, both the same. the fitting seems right at the gearbox end but might need to change the speedo end , or maybee use a stanza/bluebird speedo ?? any ideas.

That gearbox looks familiar,

Glad too see it all came together after two years in the pipeline.

thanks sidedraught it is that gearbox indeed. 2 years it seems like a lifetime to me. ive been waiting so long for this box to be in my car. very pleased to say the least. this combination should prove to be the best for a 1200 i would hope. the giant clutch from jeff taylor should come in handy as well. i would like to compete in the hillclimb championships at the end of the year in bathurst (dreaming).. i will definitely be there anyway!!

if your in USA and can get your hands on a 63a, do yourself a favour and get one

Do they sell that item? I didn't see it on their website. I have been toying with putting an A14 with a 63a 5-spd transmission into my 1200 coupe.

duncan the gearbox mount is for an L series gearbox. they sell all the nice bits for a L series conversion. I also got the clutch/brake plate for the firewall. i believe this box is basically a Datsun1600-SSS box with an A series motor bellhousing from the factory.

Word is that the auto-transmission crossmember and mount fits this box to the 1200.

Thanks Evilslim,
I forgot that the 63 was basically for the L Series, and adapted for the A motors.

Fortunately, I have a box. Here in the States, the LHD units come with a hydraulic clutch, so it's a relatively easy matter to convert over.

I know once I pull the motor out that I will want to detail and paint the engine compartment before I put the A14 in it. Once that happens, it willl turn into a full-blown resto.

My 1200 is a nice little driver, that's why I am reluctant to start the swap..
