Do 1200's need these? I know that 510's do.

Here's my rundown. Say you've lowered the car and exented the lca's or whatever to achieve some "sweet" camber. A bi-product of that steering geometry change is increased effort to steer your car. That effort does take it's toll on the internals of your steering box if you leave it unbraced, it will still wear out eventually though even with a secure brace. The point is there's no point needlessly breaking things.

booya!

also, you looka t your steering box when someones' trying to reef it when the car is stationary, kinda disturbing

Yes they stop a lot of the flex by having a fixing point up high into the wheel arch.

On the 510 the steering box moves even with no engine in it and not lowered at all.

 Re: Steering box brace
way to plug your product in someones thread...

i'm pretty sure this unit is made of chromolly, they do make a heap of difference on datsuns. if you watch the steering box and get a mate to sit in the drivers seat and turn the wheel left and right you will see the amount of movement and probably head straight for the maddat website as i believe they are the only guys who make 1200 ones. or you could make your own...
