Re: NO NO NO I stopped at the Nissan dealership in Bloemfontien Yesterday to do some fishing about the new bakkie. I asked the salesman for a quote on a new STD 1400 bakkie as I was unsure if I would like the new bakkie. He told me that I should wait 2 months for the new bakkie to be unveiled and he is sure that I would like it, as it is front wheel drive and built by Renault, a real corsa / bantam beater. I almost burst out laughing at him and then almost cried.
SO MYTH CONFIRMED.

Re: NO NO NO Dacia I wonder what would happen if one was to tie a Proton and Dacia, parked end to end, together with a cable giving it about 20 meters slack. You then take of in both at full speed. I wonder which would rip appart first... There wouldl ofcourse have to be a 1400 bakkie standing around to kart away the pieces... EDIT: And while we are on the subject of how good and bad vehicles are, I dugg up this article on a 1400 bakkie that "drowned"... Drowning

Re: NO NO NO I hope nissan knows what they are doing as Dacia has a very bad name here in South Africa. They were practicaly thrown out of South Africa because of bad quality and workmanship. The dealers all went into hiding as th SA pubic wanted there blood. Pics below were the reason why.

has anyone tried finding a vid on youtube maybe we can see how it goes........ 0-60 in 20years! If they can't make the new one outperform a 43 year old carb equiped 1400cc pushrod engine then new vehicle buyers will soon find their way to a competitors showroom to buy one that does, so of course it will perform 'acceptably well' Business is business & the old Bakkie has been taking care of business for a very long time in the new-vehicle world. A very long time indeed. Long may they be seen on the roads of the African continent.

Re: NO NO NO Its a Quote: Renault's Romanian unit Dacia added a bakkie to the no-frills Dacia model line-up which already includes a sedan, an estate and a van. And If I'm not mistaken Renault are the parent company of Nissan? We have a Renault Kangoo as our work car and it is the biggest heap of ####, its only two years old and has been had the computer and fly by wire accelerator sh*t it in about 5 times. Goes like crap, feels like crap, the air con is crap.... basically a heap of CRAP. I think that everyone should hope and prey that Nissan do there own thing.

Re: NO NO NO Quote: And If I'm not mistaken Renault are the parent company of Nissan? You are mistaken. Nissan Motor Co. Ltd, is the parent company of Nissan vehcles. They are partners with Renault. Officially it is termed an "Alliance" which apparently means that even though Renault does not have a controlling interest of Nissan stock, Nissan is willing to let them appoint the CEO and do what it takes -- and it has worked out well financially. From bankruptcy to profit is where Nissan + Renault have gone. Just think how much more profit they can make selling mass-produed Dacias instead of the one-off 1400 LDV design.

Re: NO NO NO Thanks DD, I wasn't sure thats why there was a question mark at the end... I read something about it and couldn't find it to clarify what I understood.
In the end just so long as I have my ute in the garage, I'm able to maintain it, afford the fuel and Nissan keep making awesome cars... I'm happy.

Another FWD forced upon us Look at the offset of the wheels. Berts right, that's front drive & for a lot of reasons it makes sense to do it this way. From an enthusiasts point of view, ... it sucks.

Re: NO NO NO I predict they'll be very popular with housewives and secretaries -- more popular than the 1400 bakkie.
But I cannot envision them moving 20 young men, a grove of trees, or large sheds -- as we've seen photos of 1400s doing.
