If I remember rightly, appearances are deceiving. From the outside they look as if they would have a nice & generous engine bay, but under the bonnet is a different story, there's not really a lot of room at all.

I seem to recall thinking that an L20B in one of these would really haul the freight, but I came to have serious reservations about it fitting without surgery.

In fact I seem to recall forming the opinion that an A15 would probably make the most practical engine swap.

Can we get an engine bay picture?

I had a rummage theough my library & found a parts book for the 1961 Datsun Bluebird Estate Wagon. Model WP311.

I love it. That is a really good find. Keep it original i reckon. And dont knock the suicide drums. My little 1k has em, and they have never given me grief! My theory is that it adds to the charm of the car.

Thanks for the comments guys. The tray is a ring in I'm afraid, this one was scratch built several years ago,
The engine bay is quite tight as well, have a few old A series mills laying around I'll get around to fitting one day, but the old J15 just purrs, so I'm loath to replace it before it dies.
Wouldn't mind swapping the diff though, its geared for pulling stumps, and she's really screaming once you hit about 90 Kph
Will get some photos of the rest of the car up too.

I have the parts manual for the '63 B312 series, left and right hand drive. Not all parts are the same as the 320's, particularily the front suspension but most of the gear looks to be the same.
Models: 312, P312, DP312, DP312-L, P312-U, PL312-U
If I get the time I'll scan them in and upload them to the wiki. I'd like to get as much info on the older variants together for public use as possible, as most of what gets discussed tends to refer to the 'newer' versions of the Datsun1200 family.

It's immaculate inside and out, best thing yet it's entirely unmolested, still runs the J series motor and suicide drum brakes.
