Re: New Tyres I was thinking more on the lines of pounds per square inch on the road and will a larger tyre with a bigger footprint be better or worse for generating heat and grip into the tyre. Cheers Bob

Re: New Tyres Beawwwwwdiful Well done mate - it's all come together nicely. The 888 is just right for your supersprinting (as can be seen by the Boss's results) - won't be long before Chris stops talking to you We'll be seeing you on the podium this year! Cheers

Re: New Tyres Yeah I know what lines you were thinking along and it'd be interesting to see which size would offer better grip, I just stuck to the same size as I was running before to maintain the overall final drive ratio.
It'll be good to run some tyres that have some decent shoulders on them, the shoulder on the right front on my old tyres was worn more than the left front and you could feel the difference when turning in. I have 4 degrees of negative camber on the front now, so the shoulders probably have a better chance of wearing evenly with the rest of the tyre.
Now to get the engine back together and take it for a strap. Only a couple more weeks.

Re: New Tyres nice tyres. i have also just puchased a set of these for my 1600 in a 225 50 16. i'm told they are a much better tyre than the advan a032 and a048's that i've been running.
let us know how they go

Re: New Tyres if you've been running on old or seconhand tyres, you won't believe the grip from a new set of semis!
205's aren't too wide. The only time a narrower tyre can generate more grip is in rallying if you've got powdery surface you want to dig through to get ot the hard stuff, or possibly in the wet. On a dry racetrack, you want as much rubber as you can get under the car.

Re: New Tyres Hey Harry weren't you going to Wakefield today?
Anyway I'm really looking forward to getting back into supersprints and hillclimbs this year, especially with the amount of stuff i've done to the car. I just hope my driving ability can quickly adjust to the car so I can get the most out of the improvements.

Re: New Tyres I was originally intending to, but then the Tighe Cams Hillclimb series dates were released, and the first round was last weekend. Too close for my liking. As it turns out I ended up doing neither! But I did get to take my Supra RZ out to Lakeside a couple of weeks ago. Now that was fun!
good luck with the car this season. looks like you'll be in for some PB's mate

Re: New Tyres Well I took the car down to Wakefield today just for a bit of a shakedown ie. bed the new rings in and make sure the whole things working alright. What a difference these tyres make. I was stuck like glue to the back of a lotus exige for one session, only down the straight he'd pull away, and i'm guessing he was a regular racing driver by the amount of signwriting on the car. They almost have as much grip stone cold that my old yokohamas had when they were at temperature. No times but I reckon from seat of the pants a 1.13-14 would be reasonably achievable. The new track surface is nice too and it looks like they've fixed up the curbs around the castle. Looking forward to Oran Park next weekend.

Re: New Tyres Great choice of tyres . Have researched a bit and will be also getting as set of these for sprints at winton. Have been told that these tyres don't go off over a season as their competitors do. One question though is tyre width on our light weight vehicles. Will a tyre this size work at its optimum or will a lesser width tyre generate more grip ? Cheers Bob

Re: New Tyres They come in 185/60r13 as well but since I was using this size in the yoko's I decided to go with the same size. Plus at eastern creek with the 4.8 diff i'm pretty much wringing it's neck down the straight, 185's would only make this worse.

Re: New Tyres very nice, its a shame you're gonna have to drive on them and wear then out They look to be a lot more square than the yokohamas.

Re: New Tyres Bloody good choice Aiden. That work stint in the bush recently must have topped up the coffers enough to allow a bit of a spend on the 'Red Tailed Rocket' Looking forward to seeing your PB times steadily creeping down with each new improvement to the car.

Re: New Tyres I've heard nothing but praise for these tyres, so they should serve me better than the 10 year old ao-32's i've been running for the last couple of years.
