This is what happened to my brand new rear brake shoes (linings) on my GX Coupe. Did not even last for 20 Km distance! I took it back to the local MIDAS shop as I see it as poor quality , bad workmanship on the bonding! They refused to exchange as they claim it is not a guaranteed part! Sorry to say for them I will not buy anymore parts from them, will rather drive past to the next dealer that is friendly and helpfull. It `s not about the price as it is relatively cheap but about the principle of service from a dealer that I "used" to buy a lot of parts from. But then again no one can expect service of any kind in RSA.

Is there any body who can tell me which disc and caliper to use for the rear? I know new era Skyline disks work but is hard to find, calipers I have no idea. It must have the park brake connecter also?

I took the old linings to the nearest AutoZone , they gave me a new set (different manufacturer) for 160 bucs and even refunded me 85 bucs on the old linings , no questions asked. It will be a long time coming before I go to Midas again!

Just to clarify, is 'bucs' a local name for ZA Rand?
This AutoZone mob looks like they have a customer service policy second to none. Well worthy of the patronage of all Datsun owners I'd say.

Yeah mate, I would make a hell of a bitch fest over it... make the biggest noise that you can to them, if they dont fix it then make the biggest noise that you can elsewhere.

one of the most valuable lessons that my ex taught me was "get the ####s otherwise you wont get what you want", mind you, she was a fiery one...

@Trix
Next time try "EngineParts". I always buy my parts from them. Midas I had to take on more than one occasion parts back because they were not the right ones for my car.Bunch of idiots working there. "EngineParts" always gave me the right parts and good quality parts in stock.
Does Ferodo not make brake shoes for our datto's rear anymore?

Yes i'm with everyone else, bitch like hell and go the juguler till you get full satisfaction, like Dodgy said,it's no loose screw it's a MAJOR safety issue.Even going to another parts supplier would be questionable as i would be very surprised if all the shoes come from the same supplier anyway.
If Midas there are anything like here they certainly would'nt be bonding shoes on site

Is there no industry standards body that you can contact & complain to?
This is no loose screw on a door handle, this is a primary safety part & if yours is dud, then how many thousands of others are also faulty. It's entirely possible that this sort of thing could lead to tragic consequences for somebody else.
The parts are quite clearly substandard & downright dangerous & it surely must be against the law to be selling a non guaranteed 'primary safety' part like this.

In Australia, the item must be suited to the task, as this clearly isn't, & if not you would have legal recourse.

Many years ago a friend had a run-in with a certain chrome plater. In his own business premesis he had the offending plated item on display & a sign that said "Brand X chrome platers? Ask me."
By asking him for his opinion he removed any legal impediment to expressing his thoughts & was therefore free of any possibility of slander charges, ... since his personal opinion had actually been solicited.

Put the dud shoe in the back window with a similar sign & answer all questions honestly.

Yes, you should see if there's a Trade Association that the dealer is a part of & take it up with them. Or better yet, find out the Area Manager for that particular Midas Branch & tell him about it. I assume that Midas is a franchise system like it is here in Australia. There is such a thing as an implied warrantee, which means it's not going to fail immediately. I'd be kicking this upstairs to somebody in Midas, contacting any Associations that they may be a member of & calling whatever government department handles shoddy workmanship. If all that fails, there's always the current affairs shows that love this sort of thing.
