Please, Humour an old fool & get rid of that clear hose. It's not really fuel line & goes brittle with age & exposure to fuel. Wouldn't take much to split it & the fuel leak goes right onto the exhaust. Not meaning to be preachy, but in the past i've been sold heater hose as fuel line, which couldn't take the pressure & split. Luckily it was when i was testing for leaks after installing it, but if it'd survived for a while then split while i was driving, coud have been a real disaster.
PS a friend who built VW engines saw this stuff all the time. the clear line was included in the twin carby kits as a 'template' for how long to cut the fuel lines. Most people just assumed it was proper fuel line. My mate always replaced this sort of stuff free of charge, as it was only short lengths. he said he couldn't let the car go out with this sort of hose in place, due to the fire hazard.
