As explained to me by GX1200man, if the motor has double valve springs and Nissan or datsun inside tappet cover, its a GX motor. Well here is the proof. |

Re: 1200 GX Motor The presence of the Nissan name & the double valve springs is NOT a guarantee that it is a 1200 GX, but the lack of them would indicate that it wasn't a GX.
I believe that other head castings also Had the word Nissan. In your case we had already determined that it was a GX engine anyway.

Re: 1200 GX Motor Unbolt the manifolds, and one peek at the intake ports will be a dead givaway. The absence of an "H" number means things are looking good though. I wouldn't spend a cent on having work done to it untill you have it pressure tested, and have hardness checked. They are so old that it's bound to have been cooked once or twice. And if it's been hot enough it'll be beyond reuse.

Re: 1200 GX Motor There will be no need to remove the manifold for identification purposes only, although I know it will be removed for overhaul purposes anyway.
We know that it's an oval port head by virtue of the manifold stud pattern & if it has the 'unique to A10 & 1200' plug for the rocker oil drilling, then it places its identification beyond all doubt.
