Re: Frankenstein Its from a Toyota Tercel, I cut off the T/B mount, cut it down 3/4" in the middle and cut the pipes off about 6 inches from the flanges.
Then I made my own flanges and welded them on.. took forever to weld and polish it all out.
Welded on my own plate from 3/16" Alum, drilled and tapped to mount the pipe that comes over the top of the valve cover.

Re: Frankenstein Blow through, pipes will come out of turbo, into front mount intercooler and then into carb.
Carb/Turbo is off an MG Metro turbo engine from the UK... its a stock turbo blow through setup fvrom a 1.3l engine.. so its a perfect fit.
Even the stock exhaust manifold from these cars were plenum style so I have pretty much made it as close to stock as I can... not including the addition of an I/C and more pipe.

Re: Frankenstein do you need to pressureise the carby? box it in? haven't seen a blowthrough using n SU before, let us know how it goes when you get it up and running.

Re: Frankenstein its a turbo SU carb, the needle has a really wierd little taper to it that allows alot more fuel to enter when the butterfly opens up a certain amount and the piston goes up... apparently its great on fuel at low RPMs but when you hammer on it.. well if you were looking for fuel efficency... you might as well buy a hummer.

Re: Frankenstein here here! i say! they're no too bad on fuel if the boost is resonably low and you don't wring it neck all the time! But there's some of us who wouldn't do it any other way!

Re: Frankenstein very cool, looking neat and using a factory turbo carby is very smart
edit: what do you need to do to get the correct fuel pressure, do you need constant 15psi or something strongeer with rising rate regulator etc???

Re: Frankenstein I like this idea. I've thought about trying a set up such as this from time to time. What size is the throat of the carb? I even went to the trouble of signing up on a gay UK mini forum to get some info on these carbs. I don;t think it'd be overly difficult to modify an ordinary SU carb to suit this purpose. All it would need is an O ring in the top of the bowl, and a hose nipple in the top to pressurise the bowl as the turbo began making boost.

Re: Frankenstein Just go back to one of those "gay" mini sites that you were talking about, get in touch with those dudes and ask them for an SU carb off of a 1.3l Metro Turbo motor and you will have all that you need.
The throat is about 1 3/4" btw...
The reason that I have this set up is becuase my dad drives a 68 mini pickup truck that he built .. he also made the 1.3l turbo motor fit (with mods) ...
many of those old minis are gay... my dads pick up on the other hand definately is not.. it freakin' hauls ass, its fast!
I might be able to get a picture
