I saw him today actually. And he said these units were made by someone other than nissan, and then fitted to their cars.

The one in the photo above is factory Sunny Truck. Like most parts of our Nissan it is made by another company. Like the carburetor (Hitachi), tires (Bridgestone) and electrical parts (Niles).

Air condition on earlier 1200s was always after-factory and so varies by country and region.

A mate of mine has a very rare JDM datsun 510SSS coupe, which has an aircon unit very like this one.
