Bought New in 1978.  Sold for more than they paid for it in 1994.  I still know where it is and it can be bought

This is great information. Are these cars are so rare that no one has a picture of the engine?

I'd love to see the air cleaner that the Dellortos came with. Was it a single air cleaner unit or did it have twin air cleaners like the aftermarket sells?

I just found out some more about this car.

It was one of the very last (was as far as we know the very last one sold new) and it had a bigger driveshaft than any of the other 120Y SSS's that anyone has seen.

They were quite a popular car in Oamaru with several mechanics owning them and none of them have ever seen another one

Gentlemen, some confusion seems to exist here.
Firstly these little cars are unique to NZ, having been built up by a chap by the name of Dennis Marwood in Auckland. The joint venture commissioned by the NZ Datsun distributors back in the early to mid 1970's.
Re numbers- they built around 800 110SSS's and only around 150 120SSS's.
As I understand it they cost approx. an extra $500 which tended to make them rather pricey at the time.
Essentially the drive chain modifications were the addition of the twin Delhorto carbs + air box, extractors and a reprofiled camshaft- thats all, the cylinder head, block, gearbox and diff remained unaltered. However these modifications alone were enough to give these little cars a healthy performance edge over a standard 1200 ultimately leading to them being one of the most successful cars ever raced or rallied in this country.

It is a nice 120Y. I read an article about the 120YSSS, I think it was here at the 1200 club, remembered the NZ specialty made modifications. This one car looks pristine, no body damage nor any rust, man! what a treat, lucky him who will get his hands on it, I've seen some sedans, transformed from the inocent looks to tough rallye cars and road racing speedies. Too bad I am far and away from the land of down under. More reasons to plan a trip over there,surfing/waves, nice girls, and Datsuns that I can only dream of here.
Factory Datsun w/ twin Dellortos, I am living at the wrong end of the world!

That was taken before when it was brand new, thats why it looks so good :P.

After we sold it he pulled parts of it to bit and there was abit of rust in the front left guard and windscreen frame but its all been tidied up now so is as good as new.

Ive always got on well with the new owner, if i wanted it I could get it. I just dont like the shape of the 4 door 120YS. Only 120Y I like is the coupe but still prefer any 1200 to that

Differences between the SSS and the std car are.

Badge on front left of bonnet, badge on right rear of boot lid. High back seats, 12" Jellybean mags, side stripes, twin dellortoes, headers, some head work (not sure what head it starts with but its alot better product than a std 120Y), std A12 bottom end. Gearbox was still a 4 speed but was different to the std one, not sure how think it may have been stronger and have different rations probably someone else would know better.

Would pull redline in 3rd which was 150ks and more in 4th but not sure how much other than it wouldnt pull redline

Not a bad record. They only made 500 of these and my family owned 3 of them

Once the datsun's are in the family blood line it's hard to kick it. My Dad worked in the datsun race team before I was born and now I'm keeping it goimg and he's back building motors for me.
