that's nice for them to put the wiring diagram right on it.

Yes, they are direct replacements for 120Y's & Sunny's. I used to grab the connection from the donor car & just splice that into the standard wiring. As for listening to CD's/Ipod's, I'd just find a part of the radio that didn't have a radio station braodcasting on it & tune the dial to that. It was a bit hard in a large city with lots of stations, but driving in the country there was always an empty spot. I would put a female 3.5 mm connection on the end of the wire & use a patch cable from the CD Player to the radio. The strangest version of the radio was out of an LX Bluebird that had an external balance system, which was a 4-way fader with a stick out the front which I mounted in the centre console of my Sunny Van. I even put the CD player in the glove box while driving along, so it wouldn't fall off the front seat.
I also thought there had to be a way to 'turn off' the radio, as happened when a cassette was put in the external cassette player. Maybe the antenna was disconnected some how. Maybe the power was turned off to the receiver. If this could be figured out you could simply put an on/off switch that could stop the radio reception & allow you to start using the CD player.

Great, thanks for the info. Don't really want to put a big stereo in my car. Trying to keep everything inside standard. Will be looking for one of these now. Thanks.

Found one today though an RP-454D - tested and working. Cheers for the heads up guys!

Just a query though: I tested it with 12v+ to the top right terminal and it worked as normal. I assumed from the diagram the terminal to the left is to apply 12+ to switch on light? (mine may be blown)
The one below that (next to earth terminal), would be for?
Just thinking in my head, is that supposed to go to the dimmer module? Are they dimmed through the ground cable?

I connected to lamp wire (top wire) to wiring harness Lights. And the bottom lamp wire directly to earth. Yes, you can fit a dimmer switch in it, but mine is just on/off. When I put the parking lights on, the radio light comes on.

Awesome, thanks for that. Have it all up and working now. :)
I also had the benefit of a working tape player to test the 5 pin connections. I have got that all working now as well. To drop the radio out, you actually drop power to the main wire (blue/red), and apply it to the 5 pin, red cable.
I drew a very rough plan to show connections if you're interested.

It actually comes out a bit louder on mine through the ipod dock...
Keep in mind, the sound will still come through the radio as soon as you press play on the ipod. I put a 2 way switch to toggle power between inputs. Which in turn drops out the background radio noise.
The best thing is, if you couple it with an amp that has high level input, you can keep it looking completly stock but with decent quality audio. I couldn't be happier, and it cost me $0.

heyhey Carl, is this diagram looking on to the end off the DIN cable, or looking on to the back of the radio?

Mate, I drew this while holding the lead, so would be from looking into the 5pin connector. If you strip the cable I marked the colours of the internal wires, thought they may be universal.

Whats even better is that that 5 pin DIN socket, which is a conection for an external tape deck, allows you to play portable CD players or Ipods throught the car stereo. Just get a standard 3.5 mm stereo cable from a set of air phones or such, cut of the speaker buds then connect these wires to a 5 pin DIN connector & run the CD or Ipod output through the radio. It takes a bit of trial & error to get the wires in the right pins, & I still haven't been able to work out how to earth out the radio so it doesn't play, but I've done this conversion on 2 Sunny's & a Navara. This allowed me to listen to CD's etc, & not have to worry about somebody breaking into the car to steal the stereo. I'd mainly listen to the local radio driving around town or too & from work, but when going on long trips, or when you just wanted a change, you could play something you liked. These style radios came in N12 Pulsars, A10 Stanza's & the P910 Bluebirds.

Would this be a bolt in replacement for the RN-142M, standard B310 push button job?
Also, if you couldn't 'mute' the radio, how did you then listen to a cd/ipod?
